Agricultural Accident Results in Death of 13-year-old Girl

Date:  07/20/2012

Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to assist Emergency Medical Services last night at 8:18 p.m. on the report of an agricultural accident involving a 13-year-old girl in the area of Ted’s Place on Highway 287.  Initial reports were that the 13-year-old had possibly been electrocuted by an irrigations system on the property.  Medical staff from Poudre Valley Hospital and personnel from Poudre Fire Authority were already on scene when deputies arrived.

The girl, identified as Kelsey Helen Graves, had been dropped off by her older brother to help clean a filter on the irrigation system.  After receiving no response to a phone call, Kelsey’s brother returned to the location he dropped Kelsey off and found her unconscious.  He began CPR immediately.  Other family members contacted 911 and arrived on scene shortly thereafter.  A medical helicopter was requested to transport Kelsey to the hospital, but she was pronounced deceased on scene at 8:44 p.m.

Kelsey’s death appears to be an agricultural accident; however, the final cause and manner of death will be determined by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office.
