After a year of meeting deadlines and maneuvering through a maze of requirements to get a funding measure on this year’s ballot, the Berthoud Community Library District reached its goal. Ballot judges counted and double-checked the tally for over 15 hours, with a confirmation of 2,088 votes for and 1.442 votes against coming Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. Library Director Sara Wright said she was “so relieved,” and that the counting process was “absolutely thorough.” “It was perfect,” she enthused.
The good news for library patrons is that starting immediately, the library will restore its Friday hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the beginning of the year, library hours will be expanded to previous times: Monday, Tuesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will continue to be closed on Sundays. Wright said she is thankful to the Berthoud community for their support, and said, “We will do our best to continue to improve library services.” The BCLD is one of the few tax measures that was passed in this election. It will assign current 2.4 mill funds from Berthoud Town residents to the Library District, and create that tax for county residents who reside within the District.
