It had to happen sooner or later. The Colorado Eagles lost.
The Mississippi RiverKings defeated the Eagles, 6-2, on Saturday night in Southaven, Miss., ending Colorado’s eight-game season-opening winning streak.
Colorado finished up its season-long five-game road trip 4-1, which included three games in three nights.
The Eagles scored a 3-2 win last Thursday at Bossier-Shreveport, stopping the Mudbugs on 10 power-play opportunities. Colorado scored three goals in the game’s first 8 minutes, 56 seconds — tallies for Riley Nelson, Ryan Tobler and Konrad Reeder.
Four players scored goals in a 4-2 win at Mississippi on Friday night, including Greg Pankewicz.
But on Saturday night, the Eagles’ third-longest winning streak in team history came to an end as Colorado had no answers for Mississippi, which held a 34-25 shot advantage.
The Eagles play seven of their next eight games at the Budweiser Events Center, including Saturday’s 7:05 p.m. contest with the Rapid City Rush.
