Berthoud Blaze Wins 16U Tournament

By Don Duncan Assistant Coach of the Berthoud Blaze Newly formed Berthoud Blaze Black fast-pitch softball team started out fast by winning the USSSA Fall Classic 16U open division held in Brighton this weekend. The Blaze team breezed through the winner’s bracket Saturday defeating two Colorado Springs teams. Pitchers Leah Tanaka and Stevie Smith combined to strike out 20 hitters while only giving up three runs. The Blaze team members pounded out eleven hits while scoring 12 runs while keeping ... Turner Boys’ Basketball Team Drops Second Straight Pedro Anderson scored a team-high 20 points, but Turner Middle School’s eighth-grade varsity squad dropped a 66-45 decision to Highland on Oct. 28. Quinton Urcheck and Alex Ayala added seven points apiece, with Urcheck hitting a 3-pointer. “Hopefully it will get better as the season goes on,” Turner head coach Stan Kauffman said. “We have lost our first two games, but they are out of conference play. Spartans' Playoff Opener a Short Trip Away

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder The road to a second straight state championship couldn’t have been much shorter for Berthoud when the Colorado High School Activities Association released the pairings Sunday for this year’s 3A football playoffs. At least, not in the first round for the Spartans.
