McCarty-Fickel Home Hosts Christmas Celebration

On Dec. 19, the McCarty-Fickel Home will be hosting An Old-Fashioned Berthoud Christmas at 6 p.m. Families are invited to join costumed volunteers for an evening of hands-on Christmas activities from the era of the home.  Included will be an old-fashioned Christmas sing-a-long, cookie decorating, vintage Christmas ornament making, and other activities and customs from the early 1900's.  At 7:30 p.m., refreshments will be served around the Christmas tree during a reading of "'Twas the ... Down Payment Funds Available to Low-Income Home Buyers

By Sandy Barnes Berthoud Recorder Berthoud residents with income 80 percent or below the area median may be eligible for a low interest loan to help buy a home. The Larimer Home Ownership Program has received $738,000 from the Colorado Division of Housing to assist people with down payments and closing costs. Obituary: Francis James Brandt

Francis James Brandt, 89, of Berthoud, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 in Loveland, Colo. Brandt was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Moline, IL, to Frank and Anna Brandt and had a younger brother, George. They moved to the Louisville, Colo. area one year after his brother was born. He was raised farming in the area and, when World War II came along he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October of 1942. He served his enlistment as an Aviation Aircraft Instructor in Norman, OK, and was honorably discharged ... Full Story

Pickerts Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary

Everdina (Diny) Geerken and William Bradley (Brad) Pickert, Sr. were married Dec. 13, 1958, at the First Congregational Church in Newark Valley, New York. Brad and Diny were high school sweethearts and operated a dairy farm in Berkshire, New York for 30 years. They moved their family and 183 cows to Berthoud in January of 1981.
