Sports Arenas, Pro Wrestling Have Lost Tradition

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder If anybody knows me, they know I’m a traditionalist. I love how things used to be and I’m not the biggest fan of change. This is especially true when it comes to sports arenas and professional wrestling. Whenever I hear of a sports facility being torn down so it can be replaced by a brand-new, spankin’ arena with all the bells and whistles it saddens me. All the people doing the tearing down think about is the almighty dollar. They don’t care much for ... Full Story

Shields, Boys Hoops Upend Greeley in Overtime

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder GREELEY –– Jeff Shields just wanted another chance to make up for the first opportunity he had that he wasn’t able to capitalize on. And when Ryan Barron drove the lane, collapsing the defense on him, he pushed the ball out to the left wing giving Shields the opportunity he longed for. He wasn’t about to let a second chance go by the wayside. The junior guard drained a 3-pointer with one second left in overtime as the Berthoud Spartans opened the ... Full Story

The 1,000-acre open space offers hikers, cyclists and horseback riders a wonderful opportunity to enjoy sweeping vistas in a transitional area between prairie and the mountains. "Boom Boom Yum Yum" Hits Home

By Lizzy Scully Berthoud Recorder What do you know about child sex trafficking or prostitution? Did you know 300 children per night are trafficked for sex in Denver? Had you any clue that hundreds of thousands of American children are forced into the sex trade each year, or that 50 percent of the worldwide sex trade deals in children? I certainly didn’t realize these things before watching the University of Colorado’s student performance of “Boom Boom Yum Yum,” a disturbing play about ... Full Story

By Shari Phiel Berthoud Recorder Director: Baz Luhrmann Starring: Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, David Wenham, Brandon Walters, Bryan Brown Screenwriters: Baz Luhrmann, Stuart Beattie MPAA Rating: PG-13 3 ½  Stars out of 5 I seem to be fated lately to see movies that I have eagerly anticipated only to be left feeling distinctly underwhelmed.
