Larimer Adopts 2009 Budget

Posted By admin On December 25, 2008 @ 2:05 pm In Area News | Comments Disabled

The Board of Larimer County Commissioners adopted the 2009 budget on

Thursday, Dec. 18. The adopted budget for 2009 is just under $295.5 million, $653,000 over the Oct. 15 proposed budget. The Board also increased the 2008 budget by $64.8 million for a total of $354.3 million. In addition, the commissioners certified the mill levies for all entities in the county.

Changes in the adopted budget from the proposed budget mainly reflect an increase of $650,000 in federal PILT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) funds, approved by Congress after the proposed budget was already in process. These PILT dollars will help support the county’s road and bridge efforts as well as add funds to other public works and health and human services projects.

Although the Board adopted the budget on Dec. 18, Commissioner Glenn Gibson voted “no” on the resolution allowing County departments to spend the allotted dollars in their budgets. Gibson believes more preparation is needed to meet a major 2014 shortfall which is approaching in operational funding at the County’s Detention Center.
