After returning from a two-week winter break, not much has changed for the Berthoud Spartan boys’ basketball team. The Spartans added another conference win, defeating Mountain View, 59-55, at home Tuesday night.
Berthoud (4-4, 4-1 4A Northern Conference) started off with the lead but soon lost it. The Spartans trailed the Mountain Lions until after halftime. Holding Mountain View at 47 points, the Spartans ran off 14 straight points to tie the score. After tying the game again at 52-all, Berthoud scored seven of the next 10 points for its first home victory of the season.
“We keep coming out slow,” junior Joel Maly explained. “We need to play with intensity in the beginning and keep it until the end instead of having to come back after half and play catch-up.”
Maly topped all scorers with 21 points. Senior Ryan Barron added 14 and Shane Hart scored 12.
“I felt like we had a lot of intensity the whole game, and we definitely showed a ton of heart there at the end,” Danny McGinn said.
