Thank You from the Berthoud Recorder

The Berthoud Recorder would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all of the individuals who contributed to our Crocs recycling campaign in 2008, also known as the “Drop your Crocs” campaign.

Thanks to the generous donations from many Berthoud residents, we were able to gather dozens of Crocs shoes for the SolesUnited program. This program takes worn-out, used, unwanted or discarded Crocs shoes and recycles them into new shoes. The new shoes are then given to non-profit organizations throughout the world.

In case you missed out on donating your used Crocs shoes, you can still drop them off at a number of local retail stores including both Dillard’s and Journeys retail stores, along with Brown’s Shoe Fit in Longmont, Specialties in Fort Collins and the Pedestrian Shops in Boulder.

To date, the Soles United program has donated more than one million pairs of recycled shoes to various countries including Armenia, Cambodia, Chad, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Malawi, Mali, Moldova, Philippines, Romania, Swaziland, Tanzania, Thailand, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe along with the Darfur region of the Sudan.

In addition, SolesUnited had a 2008 goal of donating two million pairs of recycled shoes. We are proud to have been able to contribute to this worthwhile effort but couldn’t have done it without the support of Berthoud residents.
