Berthoud Mourns Fallen Hero Justin Bauer

By Shari Phiel Berthoud Recorder Perhaps what people seem to remember most about Justin Bauer was his dedication and passion for serving his country and his community. Just 24 years old, the former Berthoud firefighter and 2002 graduate of Berthoud High School, died on Saturday, Jan. 10 while serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq. Staff Sgt. Bauer was on his second tour in Iraq when an improvised explosive device or IED exploded near his vehicle in Baghdad. Bauer joined the Army in October 2004 and ... Full Story

Winds Stir up County Road Blaze

Firefighters knock down burning embers at a residence at the west end of Larimer County Road 2. The call, which came in shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday, originally came in as a structure fire when a motorist on Boulder County 82 saw flames to the west. (more…)

Police Beat: Jan. 15, 2009

Tuesday, Dec. 30 The Colorado Tractor Company reported the theft of a 1977 John Deere, Model 4230 tractor. Employees at first thought the high winds of the previous night had been responsible for the damage to the lock and the open gate, but then noticed the tractor was missing. Later that same day police were dispatched to Serenity Ridge Parkway to investigate a stolen trailer. Fire Beat: Jan. 15, 2009

Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 BFPD responded to I-25 and E. Hwy 56 for a small grass fire. This was approximately a 5-foot x 5-foot grass fire with minimal flame lengths. BFPD responded to a reported structure fire, which was actually a controlled burn. BFPD responded to a medical call on Second St. for an allergic reaction.
