LOVELAND — Adam Hogg opened the scoring with his second goal in as many nights and Colorado scored a pair of short-handed goals en route to a 6-2 victory over New Mexico on Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center.
Hogg, Greg Pankewicz and Scott Polaski scored first-period goals as the Eagles (33-6-2, 68 points) led 3-0 after the first 20 minutes.
Former Eagle Seth Leonard scored the Scorpions’ first goal to make the score 3-1 early in the second period, but Colorado pushed its fourth goal across one minute later on Aaron Schneekloth’s short-handed tally. Kevin Ulanski and Ed McGrane added third-period goals with McGrane’s coming on a short-handed breakaway.
Colorado goaltender Andrew Penner had 26 saves.
The loss dropped New Mexico to 15-25-2, 32 points.
The teams will meet again Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Game starts at 7:05 p.m.
