Dessert Sauces Recalled Due to Botulism

DENVER–Stonewall Kitchen of York, Maine, is voluntarily recalling seven dessert sauces because of potential contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death. (more…)

Fallen Wrestlers Not Far from Our Hearts

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder Kurtis Soeby died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in May 2005. Tyler Carron and Nikko Landeros had their legs amputated following injuries suffered after being hit by a car driven by a fellow Berthoud High School classmate in January 2007. Staff Sgt. Justin Bauer of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division died while serving his country in Iraq earlier this month. What do they all have in common? All four were wrestlers at Berthoud High School ... Eagles Prove Worth in All-Star Game

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder LOVELAND — The pomp and circumstance was there, from the fireworks dropping from the scoreboard to the flames that welcomed the All-Stars onto the ice Jan. 14 for the 2009 Central Hockey League’s annual classic at the Budweiser Events Center. The goals were, too. Especially for the Eagles’ Konrad Reeder. The Colorado left winger scored four times — twice in the decisive third period — in an 8-4 Eagles victory in front of a sellout crowd of 5,289. ... Full Story

Berthoud Homes Narrowly Escape Grass Fire

By Shari Phiel Berthoud Recorder The Berthoud Fire Protection District received a call about a grass/wildland fire southwest of Berthoud just after 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19. The fire, which could easily be seen from U.S. Highway 287, was just north of County Road 6. Fire crews from Longmont, Hygiene and Mountain View fire departments joined Berthoud crews in battling the flames and had the fire out within a couple of hours. (more…)
