Senior night didn’t quite end how the Berthoud Lady Spartans’ only senior Rose Heaphy would’ve hoped as the Longmont Trojans scored a 61-35 victory over host Berthoud on Friday night.
“Longmont is second in our conference so they are a very good team. A lot of shots didn’t fall for us, but we showed a lot of heart,” Heaphy said. “I wouldn’t want to play with any other girls.”
The game started off slow with only 10 points being scored between both teams in the first quarter. Heaphy and Amy Ekart were the only scorers for the Lady Spartans in the quarter.
Berthoud struggled with Longmont’s full-court press, a presence for much of the game.
The Lady Trojans led by 17 points at halftime with a late shot by Jamie Katuna. Berthoud started to rally in the third quarter behind six points from Danielle Wikre and three each from Julia Perry and Ekart, but it wasn’t enough.
Wikre led Berthoud with 13 points and Ekart added 11. Alyssa Smith paced the Lady Trojans with 21 points and her teammate Hannah Kingsbury finished with 15.
