Poudre Valley REA mailed out ballots with an accompanying "data sheet" which includes a proposed re-working of the Articles of Incorporation, with absolutely no discussion or explanation. Buried in Article V is an easily-missed proposal to alter the number of Directors of the Co-op, creating a new minimum of seven, rather than the current 11 -- at their whim! Sommers Celebrate 50 Years Together

Jack and Beth Sommers will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house Sunday, March 15 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Berthoud Senior Center. They invite all their friends to share in this happy occasion. The couple were married March 22, 1959 in the First Methodist Church in Neponset, Ill. Jack and Beth moved to Berthoud in June 1965, and are now retired from the Thompson R2-J schools. Jack was a teacher, coach and administrator. Beth was an elementary music teacher. They ... Obituary: Michelle Fries

Michelle “Shelley” Fries, 43, of Berthoud, passed away at her home on March 3, 2009 with her family by her side. She was born Sept. 22, 1965 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Jerry T. and Judy J. (Greig) Fries. The Fries family moved to Berthoud in 1974. She graduated from Berthoud High School in 1983, and then summa cum laude from CSU with a degree in restaurant management. She was a baker at Perkins and also worked at the Berthoud Rose Farm, as well as the Hob Knob in Loveland. Fries loved ... Full Story

Police Beat for 03-12-09 Tuesday, Mar. 3 Police responded to a 7 a.m. call that the school zone warning light in front of Hays Market was facing north instead of west. The caller thought it might be due to wind or vandals. The police decided it was the result of the wind and repositioned the light. A resident on Victoria St. called to complain about a Hubbell St. dog that keeps coming to his yard and “using the restroom.” This was not the first complaint, but the dog was back home by the ... Fire Report: March 12, 2009

Incident Activity for March 2-8 Monday, March 2, 2009 BFPD reported to a wildland grass fire on WCR 8 and NCR 23 for an uncontrolled burn. Upon arrival, crews found a ditch that had been burning and was now extinguished. The owners were extinguishing the fire after learning there was a red flag warning for the day due to high winds.
