Marion Jones, wife to Thomas Jones (of Jones Plumbing), mother of seven children and grandmother to twenty-two grandchildren, has been an upstanding citizen in our Berthoud community for many years. She has given of herself, her time, and her energy to support friends, family and community at every opportunity. When Berthoud’s community members called Jones Plumbing, Marion addressed their needs creatively. When her church invited her participation, she selflessly gave of herself to teach children in Sunday school. When Habitat for Humanity needed volunteers, Marion was always willing to help. Those who know her say she has repeatedly delayed her own wishes and dreams to care for those she loves. Marion’s joy has been in giving — giving all she can to her family and community.
In December 2007 Marion was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite her attempts to fight off this disease, it has progressed beyond medical capabilities. In February 2009, Marion learned her cancer was terminal and that further treatment would not be beneficial. The doctors have given her about six months to live. This news came as a devastating shock to Marion as she has so many goals and dreams she still wants to accomplish. Further, Marion’s medical needs and expenses are increasing dramatically. Her family is asking the Berthoud community to come together in her time of need to provide her and her husband with much needed help and financial support.
