The class of 2009 proved their seniority yet again! On Monday night, a group of BHS seniors competed against the junior boys in a rematch stubble volleyball game at the school. The seniors were victorious again, winning 3 of 5 games (25-18, 25-23, and 21-25, 19-25, 15-10).

While most of the guys sported shorts and a tank top, senior Jeff Shields decided to show his spirit in a more creative way. Wearing his sister’s old cheerleading skirt, a tank top with a “B” pinned to it and a Viking hat, he helped his team defeat the juniors. Senior coaches Kayla Schinke and Sarah Fiechtner seemed happy with their team’s efforts, even though things got a little tricky for the seniors in the third and fourth games.

In the first two games, the seniors started off with solid leads and kept them the whole way through. But, the second game was a close call with the juniors only trailing by two points. Thankfully for the seniors, they were able to keep their lead. The tables turned in the next two games though, almost giving the juniors the title.

For the juniors, Joel Maly was only able to serve due to a stress fracture in his foot, but in the third and fourth games Maly’s serve still helped them conquer the seniors. The juniors had high hopes they would be able to pull off the win to beat the seniors,  who won the previous match-up earlier in the year.

“It was a lot of fun,” explained senior Greg Morrell, who also won Mr. Spartan a few weeks earlier, “I’m glad we won again, I don’t think that they could have beat us.”

With two matches of stubble volleyball out of the way, and the Mr. Spartan competition long gone for this year, the next epic junior-senior battle with be for the ladies this time. The seniors will take on the juniors in an intense game of powderpuff football this May. Will the seniors triumph yet again? You’ll have to watch it for yourself.
