Obituary: Orlene Graves

Orlene Marie Graves, 80, died Wednesday, April 8 at Holiday Resort in Emporia, Kan. She was born on Oct. 14, 1928 in Haven, Kan., to Mary and Orla Koontz. She graduated from haven High School in 1946. She had one sister, Eunice Pankow, and three brothers: Paul, Earl and Darwyn. They are all deceased. She married John T. (Jack) Graves on Dec. 1, 1946. His career with Swift & Co., took them to a number of places, including Holland, Mich., where they lived for 17 years. They retired ... Full Story

Obituary: Katherine Baker

Katherine F. Baker, 84, of Berthoud passed away on April 12 at Pathways Hospice Care in Loveland. She was born Aug. 18, 1924 in Thomson, Ill., to Jerry and Dora (Maring) Wiebenga. She married William Edward Baker on June 13, 1941. She was a nutritionist with the Newport Mesa School District in California and a homemaker. She moved from Costa Mesa, Calif., to Berthoud in October 2002. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church of Loveland and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed ... Full Story

Police Beat: April 16, 2009

Tuesday, April 7 A man came into the police department to report his unit at Berthoud Self Storage had been broken into. He produced the loop part of his lock which had been cut off. Eight to 10 packing blankets were taken from the site. There are no suspects at this time. The parents of a Berthoud Elementary School student reported that an unknown male tried to talk their son into getting in to his car. The boy refused the offer. Fire Beat: April 16, 2009

Tuesday, April 7 BFPD responded to a reported outside gas leak near Mountain Avenue and Meadowlark Lane. This was a three-inch natural gas line that was leaking natural gas into an open field. Xcel Energy was notified and responded.  BFPD assisted with a medical call on Sundown Court. The patient was transported. BHS Notebook: Relay Teams Lead Way at Valhalla Classic

Berthoud Recorder Staff   GILCREST — Led by a trio of relay teams, Berthoud finished first in the boys and second in the girls at the 17-team Valhalla Classic track and field meet Saturday. The boys 400-meter relay team of Tye Duncan, Greg Mulder, Greg Glasser and Bryce Munoz won Saturday in a school-record time of 43.50 seconds.
