Game 2 of the Colorado Eagles’ Central Hockey League Northern Conference playoff series with the Mississippi RiverKings will be Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Budweiser Events Center.
Game 1 of the series Wednesday night wasn’t completed by press time.
After three games in Mississippi the series, if necessary, would return to Colorado for Game 6 on April 26 followed by a winner-take-all Game 7 on April 27.
The winner will advance to the President’s Cup finals against either Texas or Odessa.
BYAA Youth Football Registration Wraps Up
Berthoud Youth Athletic Association registration for the 2009 youth football season will be held today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Berthoud Community Center on Welch Avenue.
Registration is open to students entering the fourth through eighth grades in the fall. Player fees for 2009 are as follows — fourth and fifth graders, $185; sixth and seventh graders, $195; and eighth graders, $210. The fee includes helmets, shoulder pads, practice jerseys and game jerseys. Game jerseys are for the players to keep. Each player will be required to purchase their own pants with pads, cleats, mouth guards and other approved equipment.
There will be individual teams for each grade. Rosters may include up to 25 players on a first-come basis. Each player will be required to take a physical prior to attending camps or practices.

Parks & Rec Spring Sports Season Starts Saturday
Spring sports season begins Saturday for the Berthoud Parks and Recreation Department. Games will be played in K2 soccer, youth soccer and flag football. All games will be played at Bein Park.
The following is a list of Saturday’s games and scheduled times (weather permitting):

Steinmark Award Nominations Due by May 1
Nominations for the 2009 Fred Steinmark High School Student/Athlete of the Year award are due May 1.
The Fred Steinmark Award, formerly sponsored by The Rocky Mountain News, is sponsored by the Colorado High School Coaches Association. Any member of the Colorado High School Coaches Association can nominate an athlete from any school using the following criteria — student-athlete must be a senior, must carry at least a 3.0 grade-point average throughout their career, have played a minimum of two sports each year, and have been selected all-state in one sport and all-league in another.
