Wild happenings are on the docket for this summer in Berthoud as the Wildfire Community Arts Center gears up for arts camps and the perennial favorite movies in the park series.
Founding member Liz Kearney looks at the recession as an opportunity for the center to step up and provide affordable, local arts activities for families. “Because of the economy, people are staying close to home,” and with community arts programs, she said people can “hook into that local network.”
Two upcoming programs hold promise: the yearly arts and dance camps for children, which this year offer unique fun projects at “recession-buster pricing.” Kearney is also looking forward to the summer Film in the Park series, featuring two “sing-along” events: “The Sound of Music” and a subtitled version of the Abba tribute movie “Mama Mia!”
“We want to make people think and bring positive stories,” she said. And by making their programs accessible, Kearney adds their programs get the community involved. “We want to give people in Berthoud a chance to participate, learn something, TRY something.”
