Even though husband and wife Doyle and Luvesta Jones passed away in 2005 and 2006, respectively, a $2 million donation to the Town of Berthoud established through the Community Foundation recently made news across the country.
Announced at the foundation’s annual Celebration of Philanthropy on Thursday, May 14 in Fort Collins, news of the donation was quickly picked up by local media along with the Associated Press and USA Today.
Area farmers for many years, the Joneses hoped the money would be used to build a recreation center. The donation could go along way toward making the center a reality. Although Berthoud has plans already in place for the center, available funding has been a concern.
The Community Foundation endowment could generate as much as $100,000 each year, which would then be distributed to various non-profit organizations in the Berthoud community.
