Police Beat: June 25, 2009

Friday, June 12 Berthoud Police responded to an early morning silent alarm at a local business on the 500 block of Mountain Avenue and found a burglary in progress. The officer notified dispatch and called the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office for backup, then proceeded after the intruder. When the unidentified male suspect became aware of the officer’s presence he fled the scene running southbound on foot. Tuesday, June 16 BFPD assisted with a walk-in medical call at Station 2 for an 11-year-old who had been bitten by a rattlesnake. Berthoud Fire treated the patient until TVEMS arrived to the scene and the patient care was transferred to them. The patient was transported. Obituary: Byron L. Gaede

Byron L. Gaede, 72, of Berthoud passed away at his residence on June 12, 2009. He was born Dec. 25, 1936, in McPherson, Kan., to Ruben H. and Helen Marie (Davis) Gaede. He graduated from high school in 1955 in Little River, Kan., and worked for DJ Fair Lumber in Sterling, Kan. Gaede was also a volunteer fireman. He was always in the lumber business and worked for Foster Lumber, Diamond Lumber and most recently County Line Lumber. He was a member of the Little River Methodist Church and enjoyed ... You may have had the same problem, it seemed that every time I planned to do mow it would rain. By now, the grass was about 18 inches tall and pretty hard not to notice. Saturday was still a problem. Monday, June 8 BFPD responded to a reported motor vehicle accident at the intersection of County Road 23 and County Road 8E. A bicyclist and a vehicle collided in the intersection throwing the rider from the bike. The patient on the bicycle was transported. BFPD assisted with a medical call on Navajo Place for breathing problems. The patient was transported. Tuesday, June 9 Berthoud Police responded to a reported theft of sodas, juices, and other miscellaneous drinks missing from a vending machine inside a laundromat. The machine appeared to have been shaken and tampered with by unknown suspects. Dispatch received a call concerning a barking dog in 800 block of Fourth Street. Ronald W. Johnson, D.D.S., 69, of Longmont, passed away Monday, June 15, at HospiceCare Center in Louisville. He was born May 28, 1940, in Denver to Lester L. and Virginia M. (Widdowfield) Johnson. Ronald graduated from Englewood High School in 1958, earned his undergraduate degree at University of Colorado-Boulder and graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Dentistry in 1965.
