State News: Mothers Group To U.S. Senate:
The National Association of Mothers’ Centers this week told a bipartisan U.S. Senate working group that a lack of flexibility in the workplace is punishing vast numbers of family caregivers in Colorado and the rest of the country. The group says many American workers are being harmed by public policy and a corporate culture forged in the middle of the last century, when "dad" went to work and "mom" cared for the kids at home. State News: Colo. Spellers Place High in AARP National
A new national spelling bee champ has been crowned at the AARP National Spelling Bee held in Cheyenne last weekend. The winning speller was Michael Petrina Jr. of Alexandria, Va. Coloradans Deborah George of Livermore and Mary DeForest of Denver were top-10 finalists. Petrina, age 64, outspelled 45 other contestants from around the country and survived 46 rounds to take the crown. Forty-six rounds to declare a winner set a record for the bee.
