Dear Margaret:
I’m worried about my mother who lives in her own home. She is on oxygen and can no longer drive. What help can I find if I can’t get to her if there is a fire or a flood where she lives?

Dear Concerned Daughter:
In September of 2008 the Larimer County Special Needs Registry was launched. This is a service that can positively impact individuals living in Larimer County who may require assistance in the event of an evacuation. You can register your mother by visiting their Web site at: www.Larimer.org/apps/specialneeds. Your mother will receive verification that she has been registered. She will also be sent a disaster preparedness package. Her voluntary participation in the Larimer County Special Needs Registry will allow first responders to prepare for their responses in emergency situations. For your peace of mind and her safety have her register immediately.
— Regards, Margaret
