Late-Season Surge, Seattle's Collapse Send Force

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder LOVELAND — Emily Pfankuch made it a habit not to look at the W-League soccer standings. But even the Colorado Force forward probably had to take a peek going into Friday’s regular-season finale with Vancouver at Loveland Sports Park. The Force, coming off consecutive wins in Los Angeles earlier in the week, sat tied with Seattle at 15 points, one ahead of the visiting Whitecaps, as play started in the league’s final weekend. Carron Returns for Another Stint with Junior National

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder Tyler Carron was disappointed that he didn’t make the U.S. national sled hockey team like his fellow former Berthoud teammate Nikko Landeros. But Carron got the next best thing. He was chosen for the junior national team, formerly the Under-20 squad, as one of eight forwards on the 15-player roster for head coach Bob O’Connor. Spartans Start Strong, Not Enough to Take Home World

Sports Briefs: Ice Frozen Out of IFL Playoffs with

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — The Colorado Ice had three weeks off before Sunday night’s Indoor Football League playoff game at Fairbanks. Now, they have the rest of the season off following a 42-14 loss to the host Grizzlies. The first-round loss was the fourth straight defeat and eighth in 10 games for Colorado (5-10), which hadn’t played since a 51-18 loss at El Paso on June 27.
