Sports Briefs: Eagles Re-Sign Tobler after Pankewicz Retires

The Colorado Eagles announced the re-signing of veteran forward Ryan Tobler on Aug. 11, giving the team its Central Hockey League-mandated limit of four veteran skaters.

The Governors’ Cup champions had already re-signed Riley Nelson, Aaron Schneekloth and Ed McGrane and traded Erik Adams. Two days prior to Tobler’s re-signing, Colorado announced the retirement of 18-year veteran Greg Pankewicz, who will take over as an assistant coach this season.

Tobler, a Calgary, Alberta, native, enters his seventh season with the team. He scored a career-best 38 goals last season, tying Pankewicz for the league lead. Twenty-three of Tobler’s goals came on the power play, also a league best. He ranks third all-time in Eagles history in points with 356, just behind Nelson and Pankewicz.
