Letters to the Editor: Aug. 27, 2009

Bike Safety Paramount I am a recent victim, luckily uninjured, of a truck-on-bike road rage incident. This letter is a reminder to cyclists about defensive riding and an education for drivers sharing the roads. I also learned what information is needed to enforce the 3-foot bike lane law. As I biked along a four-lane road, I edged the car lane because the bike lane was uneven and littered with debris. I ride with a rearview mirror and keep as far right as safely possible. The only vehicle ... Full Story

Wedding: Early Evening Wedding for Bunker, Resibeck

Derek and Amber (nee Bunker) Reisbeck were wed in a double-ring ceremony April 30, 2009 at the Tapestry House in LaPorte, Colo., among family and friends. The Geek Attack: Please, Quiet During the Performance

By Kyle Lee Berthoud Recorder Shhhhh. … There’s a movie on. It’s right there on the giant screen that everyone else is so attentively watching. This isn’t actually going to be a complaint column but it’s been happening more and more often, so I thought I would open up the discussion. (more…)

EarthSky: Look for Sporadic Meteors any Clear Evening

By Larry Sessions EarthSky Communications Astronomy is said to be the people’s science in part because anyone, regardless of training, can participate. There is so much you can observe in the sky even without a telescope, and of course meteors –– also called shooting stars –– are high on the list. (more…)

Wikre, Krause Propel Berthoud to Rout in Opener

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder GREELEY — Clouds hovered around Greeley West High School on Tuesday afternoon, and showers poured just a few short miles away, but it was Berthoud’s Danielle Wikre who rained on the parade that was the high school varsity softball season opener. The junior third baseman hit a pair of home runs and scored four times as the visiting Spartans scored a 14-0 victory over Greeley West, which was halted after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. Wikre ... Full Story

Spartan Golfers Continue to Fine-Tune Game

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder WINDSOR — Mike King knows how this game works. The Berthoud boys golf coach isn’t so concerned about his Spartans shooting the lowest score right now. He just wants his players to shoot a better score than they’ve been shooting. That may not happen every time, like at Monday’s Windsor Invitational at Pelican Lakes Golf Course, but the Spartans didn’t shoot any worst than they have been, either. Nils Hansen shot a 77 in leading Berthoud to an ... Full Story
