Team notes: With 34 runners on the roster, the cross country team has its largest team in six years. … Both Emma Otto and Derek Gwin, who reached the 4A state meet last season, are back. … Otto’s 34th-place finish at state in 20 minutes, 4.4 seconds set a school record, breaking the old mark by almost five seconds. … Gwin’s time of 17:17.8 at the state meet set a personal-best mark. … Gwin and Otto were the first BHS runners to reach state since 2001. … The girls’ squad narrowly missed making state as a team. Berthoud finished seventh last year at the Region 2 meet. Only the top six teams qualified for state. … Of the 34 runners, only eight are seniors. … Senior Nick Divine is not only running cross country, but he’s also playing for the varsity boys’ soccer program this fall.
