Virtuosa Performances
On Friday, Oct. 3, the Niwot Timberline Symphony Orchestra is performing the nostalgic and folksy 8th Symphony of Antonin Dvorak along with Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77 featuring the stunning, virtuosic, young violinist, Rebekah Durham.

Hailed as a “marvelous violinist, who is absolutely scintillating and full of vitality,” Rebekah, only 23, has recently created a stir in the local classical music scene and is on track to becoming the next Hilary Hahn of the classical music world.

It is always exciting and revealing to explore musical connections between the music of Brahms and Dvorak. As a stark proponent of contemporary music in fin de siècle Europe, Brahms played a major role in the promotion and publication of Dvorak’s music early in the latter’s career. The two masters admired each other from afar many years before they actually met.

Rockin’ Robin Abb will make her conducting debut with the NTSO conducting the Overture to Jesus Christ Superstar. A special orchestration of this thrilling tune has been written for this event by the NTSO’s composer in residence, Monica Sales. This promises to be an evening of gypsy-like fancy, and rockin’ out of the house.
