Spartans' Thonhoff Shows No. 1 Stuff in First

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder LOVELAND — Technically speaking, Morgan Thonhoff isn’t Berthoud’s No. 1 pitcher. She’s not even its No. 2. But the freshman right-hander more than proved Saturday afternoon at Barnes Softball Complex that she’s capable of pitching a gem as good as anyone else. Thonhoff held Longmont’s batters in check in a 10-0 victory by allowing just four base runners –– all on singles –– in the five-inning game that was called due to the mercy rule. ... Full Story

BHS Can't Find Rhythm Against Frederick

FREDERICK –– The Berthoud Spartans suffered their first loss of the season against the Frederick Warriors last Thursday, 2-1. And while it may only have been the second game of the season, the boys soccer team the loss seriously. The first half started off slow with a lot of back-and-forth work between the two teams. BHS Roundup: Hansen Earns Top Medalist Honors as

Nils Hansen shot a match-best 75 to take top medalist honors and Berthoud finished sixth out of eight Northern Conference schools Tuesday at Boomerang Golf Course in the final tuneup for next week’s 4A Northern Regional tournament at Mariana Butte Golf Course. The Spartans only took four players to Tuesday’s meet due to a flu bug that has left the team, in head coach Mike King’s words, a little ragged. Sports Briefs: Landeros Makes Team USA Debut in Series

TORONTO, Ontario –– Forward Nikko Landeros, a 20-year-old Berthoud High graduate, made his Team USA debut last weekend as the squad split a two-game sled hockey exhibition series with Canada, winning Saturday night 2-1 at Lakeshore Lions Arena. Landeros is the only member of the team to have never played for the U.S. National Sled Hockey team prior to the series. Goaltender Steve Cash stopped two of three shootout attempts and 13 of 14 shots overall in the victory. (more…)
