The unpleasant taste and odor of the Town water caused by the presence of algae in the reservoir could be neutralized by increasing the rate of powdered carbon added to the supply, Interim Town Administrator Gary Suiter reported at the Sept. 22 Town Board meeting.
A water consultant hired to assess the problem said other more costly measures such as installing an ozone treatment system could be also beneficial, according to Suiter. Another possibility for treating the water would be adding a granulated carbon layer to the filter system, he added.
Suiter said he is waiting for a detailed written report from the consultant regarding his recommendations for the Town water supply.
Contractor Approved for Road Paving
The Town Board has approved the hiring of Coulson Excavating for this year’s pavement improvement project. Town Engineer Stephanie Brothers said Coulson offered the lowest bid at $66,500 to repair portions of Bunyan Avenue, County Road 10 E and Weld County Road 7. The project will be funded with revenues from the 1 percent sales tax the Town assesses.
While responding to Trustee Jeff Hindman’s comment about the project being started so late in the year, Interim Town Administrator Gary Suiter said he would recommend a road management plan.
Suiter also said the roundabout project at the intersection of First Street and Mountain Avenue has begun and that efforts would be made to keep traffic flowing during construction. Trustee Jeff Hindman requested a schedule for the project.
Town Aid for Christmas Event Sought
During the public comment portion of the Sept. 22 Town Board meeting, resident Dorian Ryan, who is helping to organize the Christmas in Berthoud event, asked for assistance with an electrical upgrade in Fickel Park to provide adequate lighting for the Christmas tree.
Ryan also requested $3,000 from the Town for to fund flyers to promote the event in schools. Trustee Jeff Hindman asked for specific information about the expense in order to consider funding.
