Burglaries plague Berthoud weekend (Oct. 17)

By Jamie Folsom
Berthoud Recorder

Two Brighton men have been arrested in connection with two burglaries and an attempted robbery of an automated teller machine in Berthoud on Saturday.

The burglaries occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Kwik Korner Convenience Store/Gas Station and Berthoud Discount Liquor, located near the intersection of Highways 287 and 56. A press release from the Berthoud Police Department stated that “forced entry was made into the buildings,” and “merchandise and a small amount of cash were taken.”

BPD issued a description of a maroon and gray pick-up truck to area law enforcement, and within 30 minutes, Longmont police stopped the two men — 21-year-old Timothy Eugene Rosales Jr. and 22-year-old Blaine Anthony Fodor — both of Brighton. Berthoud Patrol Officer Carol Hayes responded and made the arrest of the two suspects.

Both men were turned over to the custody of the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department, which also processed the crime scene, and are currently being held in the county detention center.

Guaranty Bank ATM broken into
In a related case, employees at the Guaranty Bank in Berthoud discovered that the drive-through ATM had been tampered with when they came to open the bank Saturday morning.

According to Guaranty Bank Executive Vice President Paul Taylor, the steel door on the back of the ATM had been pried open, although nothing was taken. “The good news is that they were unable to get to the money,” Taylor said.

Repairs to the ATM have been completed with no interruption to customer activity, Taylor noted. They are working with machine company Diebold to review their security plan for the future.

Larimer County is currently investigating this incident in conjunction with the burglaries and will submit the case to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.
