Our Street Trees One of Berthoud’s greatest assets is its trees; something you probably don’t think about that often, but our public trees are worth over five million dollars. These are just the trees in our parks, cemetery and the public right of way. The care of these trees has always been a partnership; the town takes care of the park and cemetery trees and homeowners take care of the street trees in front of their homes and in alley ways. The 124-unit facility at the intersection of Hover Road and Ninth Avenue provides three levels of service ranging from independent living to assisted living and memory care. A fable well-told By Jamie Folsom Berthoud Recorder I love it when local theater takes on big challenges. Even better when they do a brilliant job of it. Director Bruce K. Freestone admitted they were excited about doing the complex and challenging script for “The One-Eyed Man is King,” but the production hangs together as naturally as if they didn’t fuss over it for a minute. Moon passes close to galactic anticenter star

By Bruce McClure EarthSky Communications Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 The bright waning gibbous moon rises an hour or more after nightfall tonight. If you look closely, you’ll see a star near the moon. It’s Elnath, the star representing Taurus the Bull’s northern horn. It’s a fairly bright star, though it’ll be obscured by the moonlit glare. Fire Beat: Nov. 5, 2009

Tuesday, Oct. 27 BFPD responded for a carbon monoxide alarm on Foothills Drive. This was a false alarm. BFPD responded to a carbon monoxide alarm on Elmwood Street. This was a false alarm and it was recommended that the detector be moved away from the furnace and eventually replaced. Wednesday, Oct. 28 BFPD responded to a medical call for back pain on 2nd Street. The crew assisted TVEMS with transporting the patient. BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 287 and ... Full Story

Obituary: Marion Elizabeth (Brehmer) Andersen

Marion Anderson passed away peacefully on Oct. 28, 2009 at Hospice Care Center of Boulder/Broomfield County in Louisville after a short illness. She was born May 24, 1936 to John and Rosie Brehmer in Bancroft, Neb., the fifth child born to the family, which grew by three more children over the next several years. Anderson was very active in school growing up, being a cheerleader and homecoming queen and graduating from Bancroft High School. She married Robert Eugene Andersen on Nov. 7, 1954. ... Full Story
