The Berthoud Boys Basketball team, ranked 92, played a very strong first half against 32^nd ranked Windsor Wizards. Windsor’s 6’7” Curtis Neely controlled the opening tip off and Windsor jumped to an early lead. The Spartans battled back to a 4-point deficit by the end of the first quarter.

The local team played a strong second quarter, tying the game a 25-25 with 6:04 remaining. At this point Windsor seemed to lose their composure and the Spartans took a 3 point lead with 4:42 remaining. The score remained close with Windsor leading by 1 at the half.

Unfortunately for Berthoud, the Wizards, with eight 6-footers on the team, showed their strength in the second half, leading 55 to 48 by the end of the third period and Berthoud ended up on the short end of an 80 to 69 score. Windsor improved it record to 7 -1 while he Spartans dropped to 4-4.

On the bright side for Berthoud, the Spartans 69 points were the most scored against Windsor this year and the closest score they have had in a league game. Windsor, however, also achieved their highest scoring game of the year.

After the game Coach Pete Scheck said, “We faced a tough team and I am real pleased with how we played the first half. They have a lot of tall players and with a team this strong you can’t afford to make mistakes, and we made too many the second half.”

The Spartans have anther tough opponent next Tuesday when the play the 6-1 Broomfield Eagles in Broomfield.
