The three stars to the moon’s upper left depict the head of Aries the Ram. In their order of brightness, these stars are Hamal, Sheratan and Mesarthim. Former Recorder columnist Doug Nichols passes away

We were saddened to learn that our friend and colleague Doug Nicols passed away this afternoon. Doug had taken a fall in December and suffered a broken leg. He seemed to be recovering when he suddenly lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital where he remained in a coma until today. The preliminary report indicates a blood clot in the brain. Nichols was a retired micropaleontologist who volunteered at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and wrote the column "Our Natural World" for ... Full Story

8th Grade Varsity  wins 47 to 20 8th Grade JV wins  33 to 13  (Photos) 7th Grade Varsity wins 26 to 21 (Photos) 7th Grade JV loses 12 to 17 The Turner Middle School girl Dragons faced of against the Fort Lupton Blue Devils on Thursday afternoon and came away victorious in three of the four games. Turner Middle School 8th Grade Varsity over Walt Clark

The Dragons jumped out to an 8 to 2 lead in the first quarter and held a comfortable lead at the half. The Walt Clark girls were not to be denied and came out running in the third period and took a 17 to 16 lead at the end of the third. The lead held until Sara Parker's free throw put the Turner girls ahead 19 to 17 with 5:14 remaining in the game. Turner Middle School Basketball consists of four Teams, a Varsity and JV for the Eighth grade and for the Seventh grade. Forty four girls are signed up to play. Turner Middle School wrestling season begins

The Turner Middle School wrestlers started of their season on Tuesday with a meet with Fort Lupton, Highland and Valley Middle Schools at Valley. The boy’s coach is Alex Bennet, a student at Colorado State University. The managers are Olivia Owen and Miranda Kamakele. Several of these boys also wrestle in the Berthoud Wrestling Club and have experience on the mat. Unfortunately, there is only one home meet on Feb. 2.
