It was shortly after midnight when the police responded to a report of fireworks at Ninth Street and Kansas Avenue. The New Year’s revelers were given a verbal warning.
The officer handled an afternoon verbal disturbance at First Street and East Michigan Avenue.
Saturday, Jan. 2
A motor vehicle accident at Highway 287 and County Road 8, a traffic stop and the investigation of a cold burglary on Sixth Street Circle were the duties for the day.
Sunday, Jan. 3
Police handled a non-injury motor vehicle accident in the 700 block of Highway 56.
The officer handled a verbal disturbance at 224 Second St.
Monday, Jan. 4
Police worked two motor vehicle accidents and made five traffic stops during the day.
Tuesday, Jan 5
Police made six traffic stops during the day.
Police handled a harassment complaint from 901 Mountain Ave.
Wednesday, Jan. 6
Kimberly Kaufman was cited for careless driving after she lost control of her car on the ice and slid off County Road 17 while trying to make a left turn onto Bunyan Avenue.
A Mead woman was going a bit faster than the previous driver when she applied the brakes while driving northbound on County Road 7. She slid 150 yards on the ice and took out 20 feet of fence when she left the road. The charge was Unsafe Speed for Conditions. She did manage to not hit the slow moving car that had pulled out of a side road in front of her.
The icy roads claimed another victim when a Toyota was unable to stop as quickly as a Subaru at the Hwy 287 & County Road 17 signal.
There was yet another accident at County Road 17 at Bunyan Avenue as a Berthoud woman was hit from behind while turning onto Bunyan Avenue.
Police were unable to locate the careless driver reported at Turner Middle School.
Suspicious Circumstances in Progress at 10:40 p.m. at the Berthoud Athletic Club turned out to be a member having a late workout.
Thursday, Jan. 7
The day started with two reports of criminal mischief. After getting to work, Rusty Karash noticed a dashboard warning light that alerted him that there was a problem with his taillights. A check showed them missing, probably taken the night before. In the other case a mailbox was damaged at 1140 Madison Avenue.
During the previous evening, vehicle parts were taken in the 1000 block of Sixth Street. There are no suspects.
Three abandoned vehicles were towed from the 300 block of Massachusetts Avenue. A fourth vehicle was also scheduled to be towed, but the owner showed up
Friday, Jan 8
The noisy animal in the 900 block of Seventh Street was silent when police arrived.
An assault reported at Turner Middle School was cancelled by the complainant.
Another noisy animal in the 200 block of E. Michigan Avenue at 11:15 p.m. turned out to be a lone male sitting in his car with the radio turned up very loud. After a conversation with the officer he turned off the radio and went in the house.
Saturday, Jan. 9
Police responded to the 100 block of Mountain Avenue where a 53-foot trailer had become detached from its tractor. Neither unit suffered any damage and Stan’s towing service was called to lift the trailer so it could be reconnected.
Elizabeth Starks was returning home to Sioux Drive and lost control of her vehicle on the packed snow when she attempted to make a right turn from Tenth Street. Her summons is for Careless Driving.
There were two reports of fireworks at Fifth Street and Mountain Avenue. The officer issued a verbal warning.
Suspicious Circumstances on Torreys Peak Lane turned out to be the resident’s daughter playing with a flashlight in a darkened house.
Late-night barking dogs at 560 Windom Peak Ln. garnered a written warning even though the owner arrived shortly after the officer and said she had a dog door and the animals can go in and out. They had apparently been barking for two hours.
Sunday, Jan. 10
Not receiving a summons is the hit and run driver who slid on the ice while making a turn from Third Street to Colorado Avenue and hit a parked car. He apparently just continued westbound on Colorado Avenue.
The officer handled the physical disturbance in the 200 block of South First Street.
Monday, Jan 11
Five reports are listed as “Citizen Assist.”
The one animal complaint of the day, this at Turner Middle School, was handled by the officer.
The officer also handled the verbal disturbance in the 500 block of First Street.
Tuesday, Jan. 12
Police started the day with a traffic stop at 3:43 a.m. and finished the day with four more. Three of those drivers received summonses.
Pedestrians on Highway 287 shortly before 7 a.m. drew a contact from police.
Police made a welfare check in the 100 block of Hummingbird Place.
Melvin Barlow of Washington, Utah was backing a tractor-trailer when it collided with a building in the 200 block of Turner Ave. Minor damage, no citation was issued.
A purse that had been reported stolen in Mead on Jan. 6 was recovered near the junction of Weld County Road 46 and County Road 5.
Friday, Jan 15
A 16-year-old male was under the influence of alcohol while at Berthoud High School.
A Chihuahua was found running loose in the 800 Block of Spartan Ave. No one claimed the dog and it was turned over to the Larimer County Humane Society.
Monday, Jan. 18
Two vehicle tires were slashed in the 200 block of Second Street.
Tuesday, Jan. 19
A non-injury motor vehicle accident in the parking lot at 821 Mountain Avenue resulted in a citation being issued.
Police found no signs of forced entry after a homeowner reported a burglary in the 400 block of S. Eighth Street.
Wednesday, Jan. 20
Police responded to a physical disturbance at the Mountain View Apartments.
Police are investigating a report of child abuse on Bunyan Avenue.
Police responded to a report of assault in the 1600 block of Fourth Street. Two summons were issued
At 6:30 p.m. police responded to a report of suspicious circumstances at Turner Middle school.
After stopping a vehicle driving southbound on Highway 287, police booked the driver, Daniel Side, for driving while impaired by drugs, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of one gram of cocaine.
Thursday, Jan. 21
A summons was issued in an animal complaint in the 900 block of S. Ninth Street.
Police issued a summons to an eighteen-year-old student for drinking beer on the school grounds at Berthoud High School.
Police responded to a juvenile complaint at Turner Middle School at 4:45 p.m.
Friday, Jan. 22
Police responded to Berthoud High School to deal with a juvenile problem. The situation was handled by the officer.
Saturday, Jan. 23
Two juveniles were reported fighting in the 900 block of Massachusetts Avenue. No citations were issued.
Sunday, Jan. 24
A found wallet was turned in to the police station and was returned to its owner.
A loose dog was found on E. Michigan Avenue but the caller was able to locate the owner.
There was minor damage in a motor vehicle accident in a private parking lot in the 800 block of Mountain Avenue.
Police responded to a restraining order violation in the 300 block of E. Colorado Avenue.
Monday, Jan. 25
In a case of criminal mischief, a hinge was found damaged on a classroom door at Berthoud High School.
Police issued a citation following a motor vehicle accident in the 700 block of Second Street.
There was an unusually high number (10) of 911 hang up calls.
Someone came into the police station to report fraud. A report is to follow.
Tuesday, Jan. 26
A report of weapons in the 500 block of Spartan Avenue turned out to be a white wooden practice rifle used by the Junior ROTC.
A ring was found at the Indigo Sky Trading Company.
A mischievous person unhooked the trailer from the truck at Dean’s Furniture.
Wednesday, Jan. 27
The responding officer dealt with horses along the road on County Road 2E at Highway 287.
There were three motor vehicle accidents in two and half hours in the parking lot between Eighth Street and Tenth Street. No injuries were reported.
There was minor property damage caused by a motor vehicle accident in the 800 block of Ninth Street. No citation was issued.
No citation was issued in the single car accident in the 100 block of Eighth Street.

A citation was issued following a motor vehicle accident with injuries at Highway 56 and Meadowlark Drive.
A Labrador Retriever was running loose in the 1700 block of Exeter.
Friday, Jan 29
The owner of a Yellow Labrador Retriever received a summons after the dog was found at large in Fickel Park.
Police list the report of criminal mischief at the Derby Grill as unfounded.
Saturday, Jan. 30
Police responded to a restraining order violation on Second Street.
Suspicious circumstances in progress in the 500 block of Third Street was handled by the officer.
Sunday, Jan. 31
Police arrested a driver for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in the 300 block of Michigan Avenue.
The two people screaming at each other on the porch on E. Iowa Avenue had stopped screaming by the time the officer arrived.
