Estes Park, Colo. – Fire crews on the Round Mountain Fire completed mop-up operations and reinforced existing fire lines where needed. The fire was declared 100 percent contained at 8:00 p.m. on June 27th. At 6:00 a.m. on June 30, 2010 the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team B will transfer management of the Round Mountain Fire to local units.

The Round Mountain Fire was human caused. Authorities are asking for help with information on cars parked at the Round Mountain Trailhead last Friday, June 25th. Anyone with information should contact the U.S. Forest Service Special Agent Kim Jones at #970-498-2507.

The Round Mountain Trail is closed and will remain closed until there is no fire activity in area.

At 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, crews working on the Round Mountain Fire held operations to observe five minutes of silence in remembrance of the six firefighters who lost their lives in the Dude Fire. June 26, 2010 is the 20th anniversary of the Dude Fire’s deadly day when a wildfire blowup in the Mogollan Rim country northeast of Payson, Arizona took their lives. Many of the lessons learned from this fatality fire are embodied in the current-day Lookouts, Communication, Escape Routes, Safety Zones (LCES) and ‘Look-up, Look-down, Look-around’ curriculums. Both programs are widely used to help emergency response personnel identify environmental and situational factors and indicators of hazardous incident conditions.
