Sunday was a big day for Angie Purdy and her children, Heidi and Noah. The local Habitat for Humanity volunteers have been working diligently to finish the dwelling for the family.
The semi-formal dedication ceremony allowed community members and the many volunteers the opportunity to see the finished home. The building was made possible by donations of money and material and by many, many hours of volunteer labor. Over 3200 hours were documented, with more likely by those who did not log their times. Mike and Marilyn Cook acted as project managers for the home and put in almost 1,000 hours.
Habitat president Ric Haskins opened the dedication and then introduced Bryce Hawkins of the Berthoud LDS church to make the opening prayer, followed by Brian Mavis of the Lifebridge Church who said the prayer over the home. Mavis held hands with the family as he gave his blessing.
Marilyn Cook presented Purdy with the Habitat Bible while husband Mike did the honors presenting the keys, though Purdy noted they had already moved in.
A teary eyed Angie Purdy thanked everyone for this opportunity and, when words were failing her said, “Let’s eat cake.”
First, however, Mayor Tom Paterson offered a closing prayer after which family and friends enjoyed refreshments.
