BERTHOUD— The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has completed a traffic signal upgrade project on State Highway 56 (Mountain Avenue) at Fourth Street in Berthoud. The project replaced the span wire traffic signal with poles and mast arms, which required crews to temporary remove the signal and put in stop signs.

The signal is currently in four-way flash red mode until 10 a. m. on Monday, October 11th at which time the signal will become fully operational. Until the signal is fully operational, motorists should treat the intersection as a four-way stop.

The upgrade from a span wire traffic signal to a traffic signal with poles and mast arms will allow the signal to operate more efficiently and will require less maintenance. Interface Communications, CO was the contractor for this $173,000. The project was funded through Funding Advancements for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery (FASTER), which was passed by the Colorado Legislator in 2009 to improve safety and repair and replace poor bridges.
