Nature Notes Club

Larimer County Natural Resources Nature Notes Club is accepting new members throughout the spring.  You can join current members already journaling in the style of John Muir and Aldo Leopold with Volunteer Naturalist Lisa.

The club will have several outings throughout Larimer County’s open spaces, allowing members to immerse themselves in the full range and scope of what these open spaces have to offer.  Club members will receive basic instruction on sketching, ecology, geology, wildlife, and other natural sciences to enhance the experience.  Club members can participate in all sessions, or just a few, whatever fits their schedules.  Please email Rob Novak at rnovak@larimer.org ^[1] or call (970) 679-4561 for more details and to sign up.

Guided Hikes and Programs

• Thursday, February 24 at 1:30 p.m. “Nature Notes Club: All About Eagles”  Join the Nature Notes Club for its monthly meeting, which includes this in-depth program about eagles.  The program will be approximately 60 minutes, followed by regular club business and journaling time.  Anyone is welcome to join the group for this event at the Bison Visitor Center near Carter Lake.  Please call Rob at (970) 679-4561 for required sign up or to get more details.

• Saturday, March 12, at 9:00 a.m. “Wildlife Waking Up” Join Naturalist Bob at River Bluffs Open Space, located just north of Hwy 392 in Windsor off of CR 32E, to learn the ways that wildlife wake up and welcome the spring.  Hike rating: easy.  Approximately 90-minute program.  Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring along water and snacks for the trail.  Program is free, no registration required.  Please direct questions to Rob, at (970) 679-4561.

• Saturday, March 19, at 9:00 a.m. “Changing Seasons – Late Winter into Spring” Join Naturalist Kathy for a look at the plants that poke up first as spring starts to roll into the foothills at the Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland on Hwy 34. Hike rating: easy.  Approximately 2.5-hour hike.  Please dress appropriately for the weather, and consider additional traction for your boots if it has been wet during the week.  Bring along some water and snacks for the trail.  Program is free, and no registration is required.  Please direct questions to Rob, at (970) 679-4561.

• Saturday, March 26, at 9:00 a.m. “Early Spring Visitors and Nesters” The early birds get their pick of the nests in the spring.  Learn about these interesting dynamics and more in this talk about birds returning and getting ready for young with Naturalist Bob at the Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland off of Hwy 34.  Hike rating: easy.  Approximately 90-minute program.  Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring along some water and snacks for the trail.  Program is free, and no registration is required.  Please direct questions to Rob, at (970) 679-4561.
