The University of Hawai`i men’s tennis team handed Air Force its second loss in as many days with a 7-0 win over the Falcons Tuesday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors improved to 3-8 on the season, while the Falcons fell to 8-5.
Hawai’i opened with wins at all three doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead. The closest match was at the No. 2 spot, where senior Taylor Soster and freshman Lucas Marin-Salcedo lost 8-7(3) to Jeremy Tweedt and David Schuster.
In singles action, the Rainbow Warriors claimed victory on all six courts. Dennis Lajola took down Lance Wilhelm, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 1 position, while Tweedt defeated Marin-Salcedo, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. The Falcons pushed the Nos. 4 and 5 matches to three sets, but freshman Alex Grubbs fell to Dmytro Kovalyov, 2-6, 7-5, (10-6), while fellow frosh Steven Young lost to Schuster, 6-1, 6-7(6), (10-4).
The Falcons take a day off before facing Hawaii-Hilo on Thursday morning.
