Bold and Daring: The Way Progressive News Should Be
Occupy Opednews.comBefore there was Occupy, Opednews was a bottom-up, member and reader driven organization. We’ve embraced the occupy movement as an exciting, essential part of the awakening America and the world needs to continue experiencing. We started reporting on day one in Zuccotti Park and have not missed a beat. We’ve been doing it for years– reporting on activism, on injustices, on the ugly under-side of politics. We do it with the help of EVERYONE– literally, treasuring and honoring the voices of Jane and Joe average– so our coverage gives perspectives that go beyond the progressive sites that focus on celebrity writers– which we also carry. So, it’s December, the most important month of the year for fundraising. Help us hit a home run this month and get us off to a strong start. Click here to invest in the future of alternative media, in the fight for social, economic and environmental justice- and donate to Opednews.com today. [2]Thanks,

Ask Newt Gingrich [22]
So Newt is all of a sudden No. 1. Even though a few months ago, while he was off on a Mediterranean Cruise with his darling Callista, his staff summarily left him. But he is back, without much of a “ground game.” But anyway, one measure of whether he is serious or not will be his willingness to engage in serious debate. Here is a list of questions one might ask about some of his positions that are to some not so well-known.

The Proposed Petition for Redress and Pledge of Action [26]
The Occupy movement is treading water. The Proposed Petition is meant to be the next step, a document that summarizes the principles, grievances, redress sought, and action needed that the occupiers have identified but not moved forward with. The next step requires the agreement of the 99 percent. We need to ask everyone in this country, one by one, if they are ready for change.

Pennsylvania Legislators Shoot Down Pigeons–Again [34]
Once again, the Pennsylvania legislature has chosen to show cowardice rather than courage in confronting a major animal cruelty issue. Ethnic cleansing in the 21st century. Not only does Israel bull doze Muslim houses but then charges the homeless Muslims the cost of bull dozing their own house. Occupy Economics Departments [49]
Economics as an intellectual field has been practiced in a way that is dishonest and biased toward “freedom” of the rich to exploit everyone else. The economics profession has provided the intellectual framework and justification for the inequality and centralization of corporate power the Occupiers are challenging. Under the guise of “objective analysis”, they have for generations justified policies that enable bankers and CEOs to operate in secret. They have rationalized the denial collective bargaining rights and shareholder rights to information. The economics establishment provides the intellectual rationalization for an unfair and exploitive system. On November 2nd nearly 70 students walked out of an introductory economics class at Harvard in solidarity with the Occupy movement. The mainstream media largely ignored the protest.
