BERKELEY, CA–MapLight, a nonpartisan research organization that reveals money’s influence on politics, announces the launch of its Company pages for U.S. Congress and the CA and WI Legislatures. The new Company pages profile top contributing companies and organizations, ranking them according to the total contributions they have made, documented bill positions they have taken, and bill positions they have “won.” Company pages also show total contributions from related companies and industries and MapLight’s latest related research findings. Journalists and citizens can sign up to receive this information via RSS feed.
Below is a profile of the American Bankers Association showing its ranking in relation to other organizations:
- 5th Highest Contributing Company, having contributed over $6 million to members of Congress
- 5th Most Interested Company, having supported 33 and opposed 43 bills in Congress
- 9th Most Influential Company , winning votes on 14 bills on which it took a position
Methodology: MapLight’s company pages for Congress include the top 200 companies (including companies, trade associations, unions, and their employees) in total contributions to candidate campaign committees of legislators serving in the U.S. Congress since Jan. 1, 2007. Bill positions based on research conducted by MapLight on bills introduced since the beginning of the 110th Congress.
