Investing in Progress

Investing in Progress

By Josh Knauer As a software entrepreneur, I find it ironic to see people going online to rail against taxes and government spending. The Internet grew from government research financed by earlier generations of taxpayers. So did computers, GPS technology and many other technologies we take for granted today. The Global Positioning System (GPS) we access from our phones, computers and cars was developed and is still operated by the Department of ... Full Story

Overwrought Empire

Overwrought Empire

The Discrediting of U.S. Military Power By Tom Engelhardt Americans lived in a “victory culture” for much of the twentieth century.  You could say that we experienced an almost 75-year stretch of triumphalism -- think of it as the real “American Century” -- from World War I to the end of the Cold War, with time off for a destructive stalemate in Korea and a defeat in Vietnam too shocking to absorb or shake off. When the Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991, ... Full Story

I know Tom and can vouch he has worked long and hard hours to conserve our tax dollars and will continue to work for ... Full Story

The Federal Bailout That Saved Mitt Romney

The Federal Bailout That Saved Mitt Romney

Government documents prove the candidate's mythology is just that By Tim Dickinson August 29, 2012 7:00 AM ET Mitt Romney likes to say he won't "apologize" for his success in business. But what he never says is "thank you" – to the American people – for the federal bailout of Bain & Company that made so much of his outsize wealth possible. According to the candidate's mythology, Romney took leave of his duties at the private equity firm Bain Capital ... Full Story

Mitt’s Most Shameless Lie

Mitt’s Most Shameless Lie

Mitt’s Most Shameless Lie By Gene Lyons People who lie a lot also tend to whine a lot, particularly when their prevarications are exposed. As a presidential candidate, Mitt Romney gives the impression of never having been in a fair fight. He’s remarkably thin-skinned for somebody in public life. Everybody expects politicians to embellish the truth, but Romney’s epic misrepresentations continue to astonish. Yet he appears flabbergasted that anybody’s allowed to talk ... Full Story
