AFA Men’s Gymnastics claims first-ever top 10 national ranking

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – For the first time in program history, the Air Force men’s gymnastics team is ranked in the nation’s top-10. Following a strong weekend of competition, that saw two of the top four team scores of the season, the Falcons are ranked 10th in the GymInfo National Rankings, with a three-score average of 343.300.

It is the first time that the Falcons have ever been ranked in the GymInfo Top-10, which debuted during the 1996 season. In addition, it’s the first time since 2009 that any service academy has been listed among the nation’s top 10 and just the fifth time since 1996 than an academy has earned that distinction in March.

Air Force is also ranked among the nation’s top 10 on four events. The Falcons are ranked eighth on the still rings (57.633, three-score average), vault (62.600) and high bar (57.033), while holding a 10th-place ranking on the floor exercise at 57.233.

The Falcons return to the Academy on Sunday, March 20, hosting Washington in its regular season finale at 1 p.m. Air Force is also home on Saturday, April 2, when they host the 2011 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at 6 p.m. The MPSF currently features the top three teams in the nation (Stanford, Oklahoma, California), as well as eighth-ranked Nebraska and 10th-ranked Air Force.
