AFA Women sweep tennis matches

The Air Force women’s tennis team swept a pair of matches Friday morning at the Academy. The Falcons downed CSU-Pueblo and Metro State, each by a 7-0 score, in the team’s final non-conference matches of the season. With the wins, Air Force improved to 14-4 this spring.

The Falcons won all 12 singles matches in straight sets, including five 6-0, 6-0 scores, and did not lose more than two games in any of the six doubles matches.

Junior Tahlia Smoke, who won the No. 3 singles match against CSU-Pueblo and the No. 2 match against Metro State, improved to 14-3 with her two wins, while senior Sarah Cassman, sophomore Melissa Cecil and freshman Anastasia Hueffner each picked up her 12th singles win of the spring. Smoke and Cecil won both No.1 doubles matches and are now 14-3 this spring.

“I was really pleased with the focus and intensity the team played with today,” said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley.

The Falcons open Mountain West Conference action on Saturday, April 2 against San Diego State in Las Vegas, Nev. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
