Air Force baseball downed by #24 Wichita State 6-0

WICHITA, Kan. – Air Force baseball dropped a 6-0 contest at #24 Wichita State Wednesday afternoon at Eck Stadium. The loss dropped the Falcons to 11-12 on the season, while the Shockers improved to 15-6.

Five Wichita State pitchers combined to shutout the Falcons, scattering eight hits. Shocker starting pitcher Zach Beringer (1-1) picked up the win, striking out five in 3.2 innings. Beringer was given the win based on a predetermined pitch count.

The first eight batters in Air Force’s lineup all had one base hit each. Sophomore catcher Garrett Custons’ double was AFA’s lone extra base hit.

Sophomore right-hander Cameron White (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, in four innings pitched. White struck out a career-high seven batters in the loss. Ben Bertelson, Luke Dorlac, Alex Baker and Stephen Colangelo also pitched in relief.

Wichita State had 14 hits in the game. First baseman Johnny Coy led the Shockers with three hits and Preston Springer added a home run and double.

Wichita State scored two runs in the second and one in the third to lead 3-0. The Shockers added a run in the fifth and two in the eighth to round out the scoring.

The Falcons return to action Friday, March 25, opening Mountain West Conference play at Utah.
