Incident Activity February 2017
Wednesday, February 1
Berthoud Fire responded to the 200 block of Hwy 60 for a stroke victim. TVEMS arrived and assumed patient care. The crew assisted with packaging the patient for transport.
BFPD responded to the 600 block of Hwy 287 for a 2-car motor vehicle accident with injuries due to icy road conditions. TVEMS assumed patient care and Colorado State Patrol proceeded with investigation. Engine 2 assisted with traffic control.
Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the 1200 block of Hwy 287 for a single vehicle off the roadway down in a field. The crew spoke with the driver and she stated she was not injured just shaken up. Advised the driver to wait on scene for Colorado State Patrol.
BFPD was dispatched to the 4900 block of Hawg Wild Road for a 2-car accident. TVEMS assumed patient care.
Berthoud Fire responded to I-25 mm 249 SB for a single motor vehicle accident with moderate damage. The male driver was conscious and breathing. TVEMS arrived and assumed patient care.
Thursday, February 2
Berthoud Engine 1 and TVEMS were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Buehler Acres Drive. The crew was advised of a single vehicle rollover with moderate damage and all parties standing outside. TVEMS stated they did not require assistance, there were no injuries reported. There were no leaks or hazards at the time.
Friday, February 3
Berthoud Squad 11 responded to Turner Middle School for a head injury. TVEMS assumed patient care.
Sunday, February 5
BFPD responded to the 500 block of 2nd Street in Loveland for mutual aid for a structure fire. The fire was reported to be in the attic. The fire was extinguished and Loveland Fire handled the investigation.
Berthoud Fire responded to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.
Berthoud Fire responded to the 2200 block of Larimer Cty Road 23E for a citizen assist. Received a call at the Station 2 reporting a need for assistance changing smoke detector batteries. Upon arrival the homeowner showed the crew the smoke detectors that needed batteries.
Berthoud Squad 11 was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a lift assist. The crew assisted TVEMS with lifting the patient for transport.
Monday, February 6
Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the 200 block of 3rd Street for a 73-year-old female who had fallen. TVEMS assumed patient care and the crew assisted with packaging of the patient for transport.
BFPD responded to the 800 block of Pyramid Peak Street for a 67-year-old female with a nose bleed. TVEMS assumed patient care.
Tuesday, February 7
Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the 1600 block of Mt. Meeker Avenue for breathing problems. The crew assisted TVEMS with packaging the patient for transport.
BFPD was dispatched to Hwy 287 for a moving van type truck on fire on the side of the road. The crew found a fully involved Ryder truck. The crew extinguished the fire and inspected the engine and cab compartments of the truck. Larimer County Sheriff deputies arrived on scene and conferred with driver who stated the truck backfired and stalled. The Captain concluded the fire started at the carburetor and continued to the passenger and engine compartment.
Wednesday, February 8
Berthoud Fire responded to the 900 block of County Road 31 for a medical. TVEMS assumed patient care. The crew assisted with packaging the patient for transport.
Thursday, February 9
BFPD was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.
Berthoud Fire responded to the 400 block of 8th Street for a 68-year-old female who had fallen off the curb. TVEMS assumed patient care and the crew handled traffic control.
BFPD responded to the 4699 block of Sedona Hills for a citizen assist. The crew found an arcing electric fence. The homeowner showed the crew the problem, she stated that a contractor had been there in the last couple of days working on the fence. The crew turned off and unplugged the fence and recommended she contact the contractor to fix the issue.
Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the 600 block of 9th Street for an overdose. TVEMS assumed patient care.
Friday, February 10
Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.
Berthoud Engine 16 was dispatched to 1700 block of Larimer County Road 15 C. The crew found a power line down in front of 1617 N. Larimer County Road 15C. There was no arching or fire. The line was hit by an excavator, but the line was not energized. REA remained on scene for more resources to make the repair.
BFPD responded to the 2900 block of Center Ridge Drive for a stroke victim. Care was transferred to TVEMS and the. Engine 2 crew assisted with packaging of the patient for transport.
Berthoud Fire responded to the 2900 block of Lake Hollow Road for a 63-year-old male suffering a seizure. TVEMS assumed patient care and Engine 2 assisted with packaging and loading the patient for transport.

Saturday, February 11
Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the 800 block of 8th Street for a sick person. TVEMS assumed patient care.
BFPD was dispatched to the 1300 block of 1st Street for a female who had fallen. TVEMS assumed patient care.
Berthoud Squad 11 was dispatched to the 600 block of Bristlecone Court for a female who had fallen out of her chair. The crew assisted the patient back into her chair and made sure she was not injured.
Sunday, February 12
Berthoud Fire responded to the 500 block of 9th Street for a sick person. TVEMS assumed patient care.
BFPD was dispatched to the 200 block of 2nd Street for a sick person. TVEMS assumed patient care, the crew assisted with packaging the patient for transport.
Monday, February 13
Berthoud Fire responded to the 1500 block of Chokeberry Street for an inside odor investigation. Excel Energy personnel were already scene. The Excel technician stated he had located a small leak at the furnace. Crew 1 took gas readings throughout the home. No gas was detected. The gas line to the furnace was turned off.
Tuesday, February 14
Berthoud Engine 16 was dispatched to the 700 block of E. Hwy 60 for a grass/wildland fire. A large pile of wood and other natural products were being burned at the rear of the structure. The homeowner stated that this was an agricultural burn and no burn permit was needed. The crew explained the Weld County Open Burning Restrictions to the homeowner and knocked down the fire. The crew turned the scene back over to the homeowner. The homeowner used his heavy equipment to spread the burn pile out, to make sure all products have been extinguished. By the time the crew arrived back to Station 1, a neighbor called stating the fire had gotten larger. Berthoud Engine 13 pulled its booster reel and assisted in extinguishing and overhauling the fire.
Berthoud Fire responded to Berthoud High School where a car had driven through 2 sets of glass doors. The crew was met by Larimer Cty Sheriff Office and the principal, and was asked to assist with evaluating the structure and cleaning up glass. The crew assessed the area where a vehicle had driven through the building from north to south, taking 2 sets of doors out of the steel and mortar frames. The building appeared to be safe for investigation by Larimer Cty Sheriff Office. Engine 1 and Engine 2 cleaned the large amount of broken glass and debris from the school.
Berthoud Squad 11 was dispatched to the 600 block of SW 42th Street for traumatic injuries. TVEMS assumed patient care and the crew assisted with packaging the patient for transport.
Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the 800 block of Larimer Cty Road 4 for breathing problems. TVEMS assumed patient care.
Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the 200 block of 2nd Street for an inside smoke investigation. The crew found an evacuated single wide mobile home with nothing showing. Firefighters checked the inside for fire, smoke and heat while two other Firefighters checked under the mobile home. The property owner stated that the water meter was replaced earlier in the day and underneath his mobile home had caught on fire. The owner extinguished the fire with a garden hose. The fire was in a box attached to the mobile home where the water meter was located. The crew confirmed the fire was out. The house had no working fire alarms, so the crew installed a smoke alarm for the residents.
Wednesday, February 15
Berthoud Fire responded to the 700 block of Live Oak Court for a sick person. TVEMS assumed patient care.
BFPD responded to the 1300 block of Paramount Drive for traumatic injuries. Engine 2 found a 20-year-old male who reportedly had his hand crushed by a boulder. Patient care was transferred to TVEMS.
Berthoud Engine 2 responded to the 2100 block of S. Colorado Avenue, Loveland for a grass fire. Engine 2 deployed an attack line, and extinguished the fire. Mop up operations were initiated.
Berthoud Engine 61 responded to 3700 block of S. Garfield Avenue to assist Loveland Fire with a grass fire next to the railroad tracks. Once the main body of the fire was knocked down, the crew was assigned to mitigate all hot spots along the south end. Once that was completed, Loveland Fire released the crew from the incident.
Thursday, February 16
BFPD was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.
Berthoud Fire responded to the 700 block of Hwy 60 for a bonfire. The crew explained the fire could not be allowed to grow from its current size. The homeowner was also informed a burn permit must be obtained in the future before burning again; or receive a ticket for illegal burning.
Friday, February 17
BFPD responded to a medical call at the Berthoud Living center. The patient was transported.
BFPD responded to VDR for a motorcycle accident. The BFPD crew assisted TVEMS in obtaining the patients vital signs and in loading in the ambulance. Patient was transported.
BFPD responded to a MVA in the area of 2600 W. Larimer County Road 8. A single vehicle with heavy damage was found in a field south of the road. The driver/occupant was standing outside of the vehicle aided by passers-by. The driver refused any further medical aid. BFPD remained on scene to assist CSP and traffic control.
BFPD responded to a Grass/Wildland fire at LCR 11 & E. HW60. The homeowner was burning branches in a small pile in his backyard. Fire was manned and under control. The owner was informed of the burn permit process and advised next to obtain one in the future and advised no burning after daylight hours without a special permit for a bon-fire. Owner was apologetic and cooperative and extinguished the fire.
BFPD was dispatched for a medical assist in the 100 block of S. 1st Street. BFPD assisted TVEMS with obtaining the vital signs and loading of the patient. Patient was transported.
BFPD responded to a medical call in the 800 block of Franklin.
Saturday, February 18th,
BFPD was dispatched to Berthoud Living Center. Patient was transported by TVEMS.
Sunday, February 19th
BFPD responded to a medical call in the 2100 Block of Charro Ave. BFPD assisted TVEMS with the patient. The patient was transported.
Monday, February 20
Berthoud Engine 2 was dispatched to the 1100 block of Larimer Cty Road 21 for a medical. The crew assisted with packaging the patient for transport along with TVEMS.
Berthoud Dive Rescue Team was dispatched to Lonetree Reservoir for two people in the water. Loveland Fire had resource on scene and command established. It appeared that a small boat had capsized leaving the parties in the water. A fishing boat had located the 2 individuals in the lake, retrieved them and brought them to shore. The crew helped transfer a man and a boy into the ambulance.
Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the 3700 block of Meining Road for a 71-year-old male who had fallen. TVEMS assumed patient care.
BFPD received a mutual aid request for a wildland fire engine to an area between Longmont and Lyons for a grass fire. The engine was utilized overnight for attacking and containing the fire through high gusty winds and then released at 0700 on the 21st.

Tuesday, February 21
BFPD was dispatched to the 700 block of Jay Place for an odor investigation. They found CO leaking in the hot water heater area. The crew advised the homeowner about the hazards of CO poisoning and advised them to call a plumber. The scene was then turned over to Larimer Cty Sheriff and the homeowner.
Wednesday, February 22
Berthoud Fire responded to the 700 block of Franklin Avenue for an outside gas leak. Excel Energy was on scene and was working on a gas line leak in the middle of the street. They were prepared to fix it but requested BFPD assistance to put a line on the ground for fire protection.
Thursday, February 23
BFPD was dispatched to the 1000 block of 6th Street for reports of a person with chest pains. TVEMS assumed patient care and the crew assisted with packaging the patient for transport.
Berthoud Fire responded to Larimer Cty Road 21 for a single motor vehicle accident. A single vehicle was off the road high centered on rocks with light damage. There were no hazards and the driver denied injury. Command was transferred to Colorado State Patrol.
Berthoud engine 1 was dispatched to the 2000 block of Charro Avenue for a sick person. TVEMS assumed patient care.
Berthoud Fire responded to Berthoud High School for a 16 year old having a seizure. TVEMS assumed patient care. The crew assisted with packaging the patient for transport.
Friday, February 24
BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call for back pain on Gaucho Court. The crew assisted with packaging the patient to be transported.
BFPD responded to a medical call for a sick person on Charro Avenue. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with packaging the patient for transport.
BFPD responded to a residential fire alarm on N. 83rd Street. The callout was terminated while the crew was en route.
Saturday, February 25
BFPD provided a wildfire evacuation assessment of a barn on LCR 23e. The crew informed the owners of how to evacuate animals in the event of a wildfire threatening the structure and/or for a structure fire.
Sunday, February 26
BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on Turner Ave. The crew cleared the scene after TVEMS assessed the patient.
BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call at Berthoud Living Center. The crew assisted with packaging the patient for transport.
BFPD responded to Berthoud Living Center. The crew assisted in loading the patient to be transported.
BFPD was dispatched to a medical call on Weld CR7. The crew assisted TVEMS with the patient care.
BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical on Turner Ave. The patient was transported.
BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on S. Iowa Avenue. The crew assisted with packaging the patient to be transported.
BFPD was dispatched to an odor investigation in the vicinity of LCR 4 and Highway 287. After an investigation, it was determined that the odor was coming from a fire place.
Monday, February 27
Berthoud Fire responded to the 4400 block of Hoot Owl Drive for a plane down in Culver Reservoir [1]. Dive crew response was warranted given that the plane was reported to be submerged. Two divers confirmed that the plane was occupied by two people. A third diver entered the water to assist with seatbelt removal. TVEMS assumed patient care of the two men, and both were transported. The aircraft was eventually towed to the south end shore. A wrecker service secured and transported the plane for further investigations.

Tuesday, February 28
Berthoud Engine 2 responded Cty Road 8E for a medical. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with packaging the patient for transport.
Berthoud Squad 11 was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.
BFPD responded to the 1300 block of Gateway Park Drive for a smoke detector issue. The homeowner stated the smoke detector was beeping, he tried to change the battery and was still making a beeping noise. The crew looked at the detector in question, and advised the homeowner it needed to be replaced. There were no signs of fire and no CO inside the home.
