Incident Activity

October 1-8

Sunday, October 1

BFPD responded to the 1400 block of N. 4th Street for a fall victim. An 85-year-old woman had fallen and couldn’t get up.

Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the Valley Dirt Rider track for a 10-year-old boy with right leg pain. TVEMS assumed patient care and the fire crew assisted with packaging and loading of the patient for transport.

Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the Valley Dirt Rider track for a 25-year-old female who had crashed and hit her head. TVEMS assumed patient care. She seemed to be displaying signs of a concussion and the decision was made to transport. The crew assisted with loading of the patient.

BFPD was dispatched to I-25 mm 250 NB for a 2-car motor vehicle accident. Both vehicles were single occupant and neither driver had injuries. Berthoud crews swept the debris out of the roadway and no other hazards were present. Colorado Station Patrol arrived on scene and relieved the fire crew.

Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the 1200 block of Elm Drive for a medical. TVEMS was on scene and evaluating the patient. TVEMS determined transport was necessary. The crews worked together to help load the patient for transport.

Monday, October 2

Berthoud Fire responded to the 200 block of 2nd Street for a fall. An 84-year-old man was found on the floor. The crew assisted with lifting him off the ground and checking for injuries. He was not injured during the fall.

BFPD responded to the 2700 block of Martingale Drive for a 72-year-old woman having chest pains. TVEMS assumed patient care. The crew assisted with packaging and loading of the patient for transport.

Tuesday, October 3

Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical problem.

BFPD responded to the 100 block of Turner Avenue for a medical assist. TVEMS assumed patient care. The crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Berthoud Squad 11 located an accident on the east shoulder of Hwy 287. This was a 2 car motor vehicle accident with moderate damage to the vehicles but, there were no injuries, resulting in Command clearing TVEMS. Larimer Cty Sheriff’s deputies arrived and began investigating. Berthoud Fire remained on scene for traffic control.

Wednesday, October 4

Berthoud Fire responded to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

Thursday, October 5

BFPD was dispatched to I-25 mm 248 NB for a 2-car motor vehicle accident with moderate damage. Both drivers were out of the vehicles. The crew was assigned fluid and hazard mitigation. Colorado State Patrol arrived on scene and command was transferred.

Friday, October 6

Berthoud Engine 2 responded to Larimer Cty Road 23 and 8, for a single vehicle that went down the hill and through a fence. No injuries were reported and no hazards were present. The driver of the vehicle denied injury and refused medical treatment.

Saturday, October 7

Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the 200 block of 2nd Street for a medical problem. TVEMS assumed patient care. The crew assisted with packaging and loading the patient for transport.

Berthoud Engine 2 was dispatched to the 4900 block of Malibu Drive for a person with chest pains. TVEMS assumed patient care and the crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Sunday, October 8

Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

BFPD responded to I-25 mm 250 NB for a single car motor vehicle accident. The car was located on the side of the ramp and had light damage and airbags were deployed. The driver stated that she hydroplaned and hit a sign. She was not injured and there were no spilled fluid hazards and the scene was turned over to Colorado State Patrol.

Monday, October 9

Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the 1000 block of 5th Street for a 70-year-old woman feeling sick. TVEMS assumed patient care and the crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Tuesday, October 10

BFPD was dispatched to the corner of 9th and Mountain Avenue for a 2-car motor vehicle accidentthere were two vehicles with minor front end damage. Larimer Cty Sheriff and TVEMS were already on scene. The crew assisted TVEMS with packaging and loading of an injured party. Engine 2 was assigned to secure the vehicles and mitigate hazards. The vehicles were removed from the roadway via tow. Command was turned over to Larimer Cty Sheriff.

Wednesday, October 11

Citizen assist in the 700 block of Larimer Cty Road 17. The homeowner was having trouble with a smoke detector. Berthoud Squad 11 assisted the resident with replacing the batteries in his smoke detectors and CO detector.

Berthoud Squad 11 was dispatched to the 200 block of Bein Street for a 78-year-old man having chest pains. TVEMS assumed patient care. The crew assisted with packaging the patient for transport.

Berthoud Fire responded to the 1200 block of Glen Way for a sick person. The crew assisted TVEMS with patient care and loading the 85-year-old man into the ambulance.

Thursday, October 12

Berthoud Fire responded to the 400 block of Mccolm for a medical. TVEMS assumed patient care and the crew assisted with loading the female for transport.

Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

Friday, October 13

Berthoud Engine 1 was dispatched to the 1500 block of Larimer Cty Road 15. The crew assisted TVEMS with moving an 80-year-old man to the ambulance for transport.

BFPD responded to a single roll over truck on Hwy 287. All parties were out of the vehicle. There were no injuries, the crew assisted along with Larimer Cty Sheriff with traffic and scene control.

Saturday, October 14

Berthoud Fire responded to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

BFPD was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

Berthoud Fire provided public assistance in removing a tree, downed by high winds, in the middle of Hwy 56 east of town. The crew used chainsaws to cut the tree into more manageable pieces, those pieces were removed from the roadway and the Town of Berthoud was advised.

Berthoud Engine 1 was dispatched to the 5100 block of S. Iowa Avenue for reports of downed power lines. The crew was greeted by the homeowner who the took crew to his back yard where a power pole had fallen. There were no hazards or life threats. Excel Energy was notified and the crew flagged the area and made a perimeter around the pole.

Monday, October 16

BFPD assisted LCSO and TVEMS with a medical call on 4th Street.

BFPD responded to an odor investigation on 5th Street. The crew reported a strong smell of natural gas at the front door. After investigation, the source was determined to be a leak from a gas stove. Xcel Energy was notified.

BFPD assisted a citizen with a smoke alarm on Gentlewind Way.

BFPD assisted TVEMS and LCSO with a medical call on Lakritz Street. The crew assisted with loading the patient for transport.

Tuesday, October 17

BFPD responded to a medical call with TVEMS on Tia Court. The crew assisted with transporting the patient.

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 56. One patient was transported. The fire crew assisted with patient care and traffic control.

BFPD responded to an activated residential carbon monoxide detector on 8th and Bunyan. The CO monitor was expired and the homeowners were advised to replace the detector.

BFPD assisted with loading a patient to be transported at the Berthoud Living Center.

Wednesday, October 18

BFPD responded to an odor investigation on East Turner Ave. The fire crew was unable to locate an odor in the area.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on 2nd Street. The patient was transported.

BFPD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on County Rd. 17 and Rosewood Drive. This was a single vehicle rollover accident. One person did agree to be transported for further evaluation. The crew assisted with hazard mitigation and cleanup.

BFPD assisted a citizen on Longview Ave with their smoke detectors.

BFPD was notified of a report of outside smoke in the area of 2nd St. The fire crew was unable to locate any smoke.

Thursday, October 19

BFPD and TVEMS responded to a medical call for a fall on 4th St.

BFPD responded to an activated fire alarm on Clayton Place. The fire crew investigated and found a faulty fire alarm.

BFPD responded to a report of smoke in the area of 2nd and 1st Street. The fire crew searched the area but was unable to locate any smoke.

BFPD responded to a report of a carbon monoxide detector activated on Aspen Drive. The fire crew found elevated levels in the house. Xcel Energy was notified and the crew shut off the gas in the house and vented the house.

Friday, October 20

BFPD assisted a homeowner on Evening Breeze Drive with a faulty smoke detector.

BFPD responded to a report of a truck on its side on WCR 46 and WCR 5. There were no injuries reported.

BFPD responded to a vehicle fire on Prairie Star Drive. A tractor engine was found on fire at the scene. The fire crew extinguished the fire. A fire investigator arrived for further investigation.

BFPD and TVEMS responded to a medical call on Schofield Road for a patient who had fallen and sustained an injury. The crew assisted with loading the patient to be transported.

BFPD responded to a reported residential structure fire on 5th Street. The crew found heavy smoke with no visible flame. The fire was found to be contained to the kitchen oven and was extinguished.

Saturday, October 21

BFPD responded to a medical call for breathing problems on Sioux Drive. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a medical call on Nebraska Ave. The patient was transported.

Sunday, October 22

BFPD responded to a residential structure fire on West Hill Road. The crew saw smoke coming from the front yard. After investigation, it was found to be a controlled burn in the back yard. The crew explained the burn permit process to the homeowner.

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on LCR 8E. A single motorcycle with two riders was found down. One rider was injured. The fire crew assisted with traffic control before clearing the scene.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call at Berthoud Living Center. A patient was transported.

Monday, October 23

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center. The patient was transported.

Berthoud Fire responded to the 800 block of 6th Street for an unauthorized burn. A homeowner was burning leaves in a fire pit. The crew advised him he shouldn’t be burning leaves and asked him to put it out. He complied and the crew cleared scene.

Tuesday, October 24

Berthoud Fire responded to a medical call with TVEMS to Meadowlark. A female was transported for back/hip pain.

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident at Weld Cty Road 1 and Hwy 56. This was a dump truck vs. SUV with moderate damage. All parties were out of the vehicles. TVEMS checked for injuries and found none. The scene was upgraded to hazmat with more than 10 gallons of spill. Engine 2 arrived on scene and was assigned to fuel spill mitigation. When Larimer Cty Sheriff arrived Chief 2 cleared engine 2. All hazards mitigated, Larimer Cty Sheriff worked with owner of dump truck to request environmental cleanup.

BFPD was dispatched with TVEMS to the 220 block of 10th Street for a fall victim. The crew assisted with loading the patient for transport.

Berthoud Fire responded to the 5100 block of Sherman Drive for a medical. The fire crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Wednesday, October 25

BFPD responded to the 500 block of 7th Street for a medical. The individual was transported.

Engine 1 was tasked to assist with showing the fire engine to three classes of 1st graders. The fire crew discussed what the tools on the engine were and fielded questions from the students at Ivy Stockwell.

Thursday, October 26

Public Education for Raising Daisy’s Daycare. The fire crew covered stop, drop and roll, stay out. Firefighters are your friends and conducted a fire drill.

Berthoud Engine 1 did a public education event at Berthoud Elementary School. The fire crew provided tours of the apparatus for three first grade classes.

Friday, October 27

BFPD responded to Hwy 287 for a 5-vehicle accident. Chief 2 established command, and requested all drivers be evaluated by TVEMS. Engine 2 was assigned to block southbound lanes of Highway 287 and mitigate fluids and hazards.

Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the 800 block of Humboldt Peak Lane for a medical. TVEMS assumed patient care.

BFPD responded to a call along with TVEMS to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

Berthoud Engine 1 responded for a person with back pain on Weld Cty Road 3. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with packaging and loading of the patient for transport.

Saturday, October 28

Larimer Cty Sheriff requested assistance in disabling a battery on a vehicle at Hwy 56 and Weld Cty Road 7. The fire crew also assisted with traffic control until the vehicle could be removed from the roadway.

BFPD responded to the 3300 block of Meining Road for a 1-year-old having a seizure. TVEMS assumed patient care. The patient was not transported.

Berthoud Fire responded to the 1200 block of Paramount Drive for a person with breathing problems. TVEMS assumed patient care and the patient was transported.

BFPD responded to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

Sunday, October 29

Berthoud Fire, along with TVEMS, responded to the 200 block of Bein Street for a sick person. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to the 300 block of 42nd Street SW for a cardiac arrest. TVEMS assumed patient care. The fire crew assisted with packaging and loading of the patient for transport.

Berthoud Engine 1 was requested to respond to an incident along Hwy 60. A complainant had called about some unknown substance bubbling up from underground on his property. The flow rate was determined to be somewhere between 3 and 6 gallons per minute flowing from an unknown source and the product was yet to be identified. A hydra-vac truck arrived on scene to clean up the leak.   [1]

Incident Activity for October 30-November 5

Monday, October 30

Berthoud Fire responded to the 100 block of 10th Street for a 65-year-old female unconscious. TVEMS assumed patient care. Engine 1 further assisted with packaging and loading the patient for transport.

Citizen assist in the 400 block of Cheyenne Drive. The fire crew replaced all the detector batteries in the home.

BFPD was dispatched to a grass fire just south of the intersection of Larimer Cty Road 1 and Road 4. Chief 2 arrived and reported a small slow moving fire, 100’ by 6’. Engine 1 was assigned to suppress the north end of the fire area. The State Engine was assigned to the south end. Crews extinguished the fire.

Berthoud Engine 1 located a single motor vehicle on the east shoulder between the NB lanes and the frontage road. The crew made contact and determined that it was a non-injury accident. Engine 1 checked for hazards and there was nothing to mitigate.

Tuesday, October 31

BFPD responded to Hwy 287 for a single vehicle that had a small engine compartment fire. The fire crew did a quick hit with a dry chemical extinguisher and finished mopping up. Command was turned over to Colorado State Patrol.

Berthoud Fire responded to the 1000 block of Aspen Drive for burning in the back yard. The fire crew informed the homeowner that he could not burn leaves or yard waste and had him extinguish the fire.

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center. The patient was transported.

Wednesday, November 1

Berthoud Engine 1 responded to 42nd Street SW for power lines down. Upon arrival found a low hanging wire as well as a wire that was touching the ground. Xcel Energy arrived and disconnected the power and moved the all the wires out of the roadway.

BFPD was dispatched to the 800 block of 1st Street where Larimer County Sheriff was on scene. The fire crew located a telecommunication pole that had broken at the base and was leaning over 1st Street. A ratchet strap was used to tie the pole to an anchor.

Berthoud Engine responded to the 300 block of Victoria Street for a blown out pilot light. The fire crew met with the homeowner who stated that because of the high winds lately, the pilot light on his hot water heater had blown out and he wasn’t sure how to relight it. The hot water heater was located in the basement, the crew used the electronic ignition device on the heater to relight it.

BFPD responded to the 200 block of Wilfred Road for a fall victim. The fire crew along with TVEMS assisted the patient back into her chair.

Friday, November 3

Station 1 received a call from Extraction Oil and Gas requesting assistance with applying a foam blanket to a work area, where a new well-head cap was to be welded in place. Engine 1 applied a Class B form blanket to the work area.

Berthoud Fire responded along with TVEMS to the 200 block of 2nd Street for a medical. TVEMS assumed patient care.

BFPD responded to Hwy 60 for a 74-year-old woman unconscious and breathing. TVEMS assumed patient care. The fire crew assisted with packaging the patient for transport.

Saturday, November 4

Berthoud Fire responded to the 100 block of Iowa Street for a medical. TVEMS assumed patient care and Larimer Cty Sheriff called in a Victims Advocate. Command was turned over to the Sheriff’s dept.

Sunday, November 5

BFPD was dispatched to the 600 block of Bristlecone Ct. for a person with breathing problems. The patient was an 80-year-old female having difficulty breathing. TVEMS assumed patient care, the fire crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Berthoud Engine 1 responded to I-25 mm 248 SB for a medical. TVEMS was in contact with the driver. Engine 1 blocked the left shoulder and lane 1. TVEMS with the assistance of the fire crew loaded the patient for transport.
