Berthoud Fire to learn about pets

AMVS to Conduct First Aid Classes

Aspen Meadow Veterinary Specialists (AMVS) in Longmont will be heading to Berthoud to conduct first aid classes for Berthoud Fire Protection District. The week of July 23, various members of the emergency staff, including doctors and nurses, will be traveling to Berthoud for three separate classes. The presentation will cover obtaining vitals and triage of animals involved in a car accident or suffering from smoke inhalation or heat stroke. Demonstration dogs will be present to allow members of Berthoud EMS to practice obtaining vitals and injury assessment. AMVS began offering these classes for Longmont EMS last year. Following the overwhelmingly positive response, AMVS decided to extend these classes to a number of other local EMS teams. In addition to these classes, AMVS offers another series of similar classes for the local canine units of the police departments. “The goal of these classes is to help ensure rescued pets are able to receive immediate care prior to arriving at a veterinarian,” says Dr. Matt Rooney, “hopefully increasing their chances for survival.” If you are interested in these classes, please contact AMVS at 303-678-8844.

AMVS is a 24-hour veterinary facility providing specialty internal medicine, surgery, oncology, emergency and critical care, physical rehabilitation, and blood bank services for pets. They are located in Longmont at 104 S. Main St. For more information, go to www.AspenMeadowVet.com.
