Tuesday, June 1

This could be described as a “Found Day.”

A Bernise Mountain Dog found in the 700 block of Third Street was returned to the owner.

A black and white cat found in the 900 block of Longview Avenue went to the Humane Society.

A wallet found on West County Road 10E was returned to the owner.

Six kittens found in the 700 block of Second Street went to the Humane Society.

Suspicious circumstances reported in the 600 block of Sixth Street was tenants moving out.

A barking dog on Bristlecone Court was being quiet when the police arrived.

The cows reported on County Road 17 were back in the pasture when the officer arrived.

Wednesday, June 2

A report that someone was suspected of smoking marijuana in the 1600 block of Fourth Street turned out to be someone smoking tobacco filled cigarettes.

A verbal disturbance reported in the 1000 block of Seventh Street Court turned out to be a couple arguing while in the process of moving.

Three written warnings were issued for code violations. Two were for trailers and one for parking.

Police were called to the Little Thompson Valley Pioneer Museum because of a bat on the sidewalk. Bats have again taken up residence behind the sign on the front of the museum building.

An unknown suspect threw an object from a vehicle traveling on Highway 56 and hit the windshield of a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, breaking the windshield.

A dog was returned to its owner at 10:30 p.m.

Thursday, June 3

Police assisted at the scene of a head on collision on Highway 56 a quarter mile east of Weld County Road 1. The accident involved a midsize pickup truck and a concrete mixing truck. The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene

Police responded to a call from Dean’s Furniture and took a dog in custody.

A loose black Labrador Retriever reported on Redwood Circle was gone when police arrived.

A noise complaint in the 100 block of East Iowa Avenue was, apparently, kids being loud, but they were quiet when the officer came to the house.


Friday, June 4

The loud music on Bruce Drive at 13 minutes past midnight had stopped by the time a unit arrived at the scene at 22 minutes past midnight.

A 4 a.m. barking dog in the area of South Fifth Street and Iowa Avenue was quiet when the officer arrived in the area. However, when the barking was reported again an hour later, the officer was able to issue a written warning.

Shortly after 8 a.m., a cat was returned to its owner. There is no information as to how the cat came to be in police custody.

A resident in the 100 block of Mountain Avenue reported that their garage door was off its tracks and thought it suspicious.

Police received a report of someone dumping trash on Weld County Road 7, but it turned out that they were picking up trash.

A cell phone was reported lost.

At 1 p.m., a dog was returned to its owner. Again, there is not indication as to how the dog ended up being in police custody.

Three juveniles riding All Terrain Vehicles at the Berthoud water tower were given verbal warnings about trespassing.

An area resident complained about noise coming from the Derby Grill at 11:41 p.m. The report says that the situation was handled by the officer.

Saturday June 5

Police were summoned to the 600 block of Lake Avenue on a report of suspicious activities. They found a drunken person in the yard and assisted them to the house.

A cell phone was found at Fickel Park and returned to the owner.

A wallet was found at Fifth Street and Mountain Avenue and returned to the owner.

A seventeen-year-old  juvenile male was arrested in the 900 block of Mountain Avenue on an outstanding warrant from Boulder County.

A female was arrested for driving under the influence after a stop at North County Road 17 and West County Road 10E.

Police issued four summonses for traffic violation and gave three written warnings for parking violations.

Sunday, June 6

A report at 12:44 a.m. complained of load music in the 200 block of South First Street. In spite of a quick response by police, the area was quiet when they arrived.

A report of a verbal disturbance at 1:10 a.m. on Keep Circle was found to be a loud party and no disturbance, except perhaps to the person who made the report.

Police issued a summons after finding a small dog locked in a vehicle in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue.

Police handled eight traffic cases and issued two summonses.

Monday, June 7

Police investigated a “cold” trespass in the 1000 block of Seventh Street Court.

Police investigated a “cold” theft in the 1200 block of Fourth Street.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. police responded to the 200 block of First Street on the report of a verbal disturbance. Situation handled by officer.

Police investigated a case of harassment in the 300 block of Iowa Avenue.

Police looked in to another case of a “cold” trespass. This one in the 500 block of Fourth Street.

Police made three traffic stops and issued two summonses.

Tuesday, June 8

Seven code enforcement actions were taken, six in the Hillsdale Subdivision and one in the 400 Block of Iowa Avenue. All the parties were given verbal or written warnings.

Officers made nine traffic stops and issued four summonses.

Wednesday, June 9

A Third Street resident reported that they found a screen damaged when they arose in the morning.

A dog was run over by a truck in the 500 block of Iowa Avenue. The truck driver was uninjured, the dog was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police tagged an abandoned vehicle at 900 Bruce Dr.

A bicycle had been taken at Berthoud Elementary, but was returned.

A child reported lost at the swimming pool was found before help arrived in the form of a uniformed police officer.

Police determined that no report was desired in a non-injury motor vehicle accident at First Street and Welch Avenue. The drivers exchanged information.

Police were unable to locate a door-to-door solicitor in the 100 block of Iowa Avenue.

A resident of Maple Drive reported an Internet scam. The resident developed an internet and telephone relationship with a person overseas. The suspect requested money several times, which the victim willingly sent. The victim was defrauded of over $250,000.

Police received complaints about people receiving telephone sales calls from College Painters.

Thursday, June 10

Police responded quickly to Robert’s Lake after receiving a report of a “scary” Chow loose at the park. However, the dog was nowhere to be found.

A “hit and run” was reported when a vehicle parked in the 600 block of Welch Avenue had it mirror hit by a passing vehicle.

A reported cold theft turned out to be a civil matter.


Friday, June 11

Police responded to the 1000 block of Seventh Street shortly before 4 a.m. on the report of a verbal disturbance. He found a male and a female in an argument but classified it as verbal only.

Someone reported a man in a truck watching kids at the swimming pool and thought it suspicious. He was gone when police arrived.

In another motor vehicle accident at First Street and Welch Avenue, there were no injuries in a collision between a Pepsi Cola truck and a Verizon Truck.

Police looked into a possible traffic problem when a motorist reported that the Detour signs were misleading.

A resident in the 500 block of Eighth Street reported damage to his vehicle, possibly occurring during Berthoud Day.

Saturday, June 12

A caller reported a large pothole in the street at Mountain Avenue and Seventh Street.

Kids reported taking mail from mailboxes in the vicinity of Seventh Street and Capital Avenue managed to disappear before police arrived.

A black Sheppard mix dog was brought to the police station. It had no tags and was subsequently turned over to the Larimer County Humane Society.


Sunday, June 13

A 1 a.m. caller reported that the signals at County Road 8 and U.S. Highway 287 were flashing red.

A Colorado Avenue resident reported that items had been take from the home.

Police assisted Berthoud Fire and the Larimer County Bomb squad when a resident of the Collins Park subdivision reported that he had inadvertently brought some explosive material home from a construction site.


Monday, June 14

Two dogs, a Poodle and a Shepard were reported loose at Fifth Street and Capital Avenue. Police were unable to locate the animals when they arrived an hour later.

A Black Lab was reported loose in the 700 block of Franklin Avenue, but police were unable to locate the loose Lab. An hour later a Black Lab was reported getting into the trash on Bunyan Avenue. The animal remains at large as police were unable to locate the trash hound.

When police responded to a noise complaint on Keep Circle a resident who races model cars in the street. There was no criminal violation.

Police are investigating a possible harassment by voice mail on Mount Massive Street.

A  vehicle broke down on Ninth Street at Bruce Drive. The driver left for hellp and when he returned he found the tires slashed and items taken from the car.

Household items, including jewelry and DVDs were stolen from a house in the 1700 block of Exeter Street. The case remains under investigation. There is a suspect in the case.

A neighbor complained about the noise from a small party on Keep Circle at 11 p.m. The officer advised the party animals to keep the noise level down.

Tuesday, June 15

Three “found” backpacks were brought into the police department.

More “found” property turned up on Welch Avenue. This time it was documents in a plastic sleeve.

Police are looking into a trespass in the 300 block of Cheyenne Drive.

An ex-husband called to report that his ex-wife has his property. Police explained that this was a civil matter, not a criminal case.

Two reports of suspicious activity were reported with in minutes of each other shortly after 11 p.m. Both were on Massachusetts Avenue by Fickel Park. In the first instance the driver of a vehicle ducked down and in the other there was a light on in the vehicle. The determination was that there was not criminal violation.

Two dogs were poisoned in the 200 block of First Street. The likely substance was antifreeze. One of the dogs died and the other has recovered. Tools were stolen at the same time. The case is under investigation.

Wednesday, June 16

A report of suspicious circumstances in the 800 block of Sixth Street was attributed to problems between neighbor.

A verbal disturbance was reported in the 800 block of Franklin Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. The disturbance involved an argument going on behind the duplexes.

Kids loitering in the parking lot near Hays Market after 10 p.m. were give a verbal warning by the on duty officer.

Thursday, June 17

A report of suspicious circumstances in the 200 block of First Street is being investigated with a report to follow.

Police responded to a two-vehicle non-injury accident at  County Road 17 and Highway 287. A citation for careless driving was issued to a 41-year-old Loveland resident.

Two dogs were reported running loose in the 100 block of East Nebraska Avenue. The animals were gone when police arrived a half hour later.

A vehicle parked at the Brick Oven was entered and a GPS unit taken.

A black and gray dog was reported loose at Fourth Street and Water Avenue, but despite prompt arrival by police, the dog was nowhere to be found.

Friday, June 18

A loose dog was reported in the 900 block of Seventh Street. The situation was handled by the officer.

The finder of a wallet brought it to the police station and it was returned to the owner.

Police were referred to 841 Longview Avenue for a weed violation.

Saturday, June 19

A pit bull type dog bit a 10-year-old child in the 1000 block of Sixth Street. A citation was issued to Marco Gonzales, a 20-year-old Berthoud resident for dog at large, vicious dog, no dog license, no rabies tag. Gonzales reported that the dog was now missing.

A motor vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 287 south of was referred to the Colorado State Patrol.

A jogger found jewelry in the 300 block of Eighth Street and brought it to the police department where it is being kept in the lost property vault.

A verbal warning was given to juveniles skateboarding on new concrete at Second Street and Mountain Avenue.

The burglar alarm at a local bank at 10:30 p.m. turned out to be a false alarm.


Sunday, June 20

A driver reported a couple having what appeared to be an argument next to their car on U.S. Highway 287 west of Berthoud. The car had become disabled and the man was apparently agitated and had left the scene on foot by the time an officer arrived. The Officer remained with the female until the tow truck arrived.

Child abuse in progress was the report to the police when children were observed in the cab of a pickup truck at Meadowlark Lane and Mountain Avenue with no adult watching over them. The adult was present, but in the camper. Apparently, no summons was issued.

An officer assisted a Weld County Sheriff’s Deputy, who had stopped a driver on Highway 56, by issuing a summons to a 29-year-old Lyons resident for driving with out a valid license.

It was early evening when police responded to a physical disturbance in the 200 block of Second Street. The officer found two intoxicated persons who had been arguing and had attempted, unsuccessfully, to fight with each other. A routine check showed an outstanding warrant for one of the individuals, a 27-year-old Berthoud resident.  He was arrested and taken to the Larimer County Detention Center.

At 8:06 p.m. dispatch received a complaint about a barking dog in the 700 block of Bruce Drive.  However, the officer on duty was transporting the arrestee to the detention center and was not able to respond for an hour and the dog was quiet when he/she arrived on Bruce Drive.

Monday, June 21

The barking dog in the 700 block of Bruce Drive was reported again this morning. Apparently, the police arrived in time to hear the dog and the situation was handled by the officer.

A kind-hearted soul reported a cat on a pole in the 1000 block of First Street. An officer checked later and the cat had apparently rescued itself.

A man in the 500 block of First Street reported harassment by telephone by his ex-wife.

A parking problem in the 600 block of Torreys Peak Lane was referred to the Code Enforcement Officer.

A loose dog in the area of Turner Middle School managed to elude police.

Berthoud Police assisted Larimer Count Sheriff’s Deputies at a physical disturbance on Highway 287 south of Berthoud.

The soda machine at Berthoud Park was burglarized.

The officer on patrol discovered the door to the Berthoud Town Park storage area of the restroom building had been pried open. There was also damage to another building. The case is under investigation.

Lawn ornaments were stolen from the front yard of a house in the 700 block of Eighth Street.


Tuesday, June 22

Police assisted a motorist in the 1100 block of Mountain Avenue at 1:11 a.m.

Responding to a report of suspicious circumstances in progress, the officer found fishing line strung across Spartan Avenue at 1:15 a.m.

Police contacted a bicyclist at Log Cabin Liquor at 2:07 a.m. The cyclist was given a verbal warning.

Police make a welfare check at Second Street and Welch Avenue at 2:30 a.m. when a man waved down the newspaper delivery person while looking for his dog.

A resident on Spartan Avenue heard a noise at 2:41 a.m. and reported it. The officer reported it as unfounded.

A caller from the 700 block of Eighth Street reported that some garden items had been taken.

A bicycle found in the 800 block of Welch Avenue was returned to the owner.

Officers performed several foot patrols at various locations during the day.

Wednesday, June 23

The on duty officer found a person in the Town Park at 1:22 a.m. A routine check for warrants showed a felony warrant for Zachariah Dale Humbert, a 24-year-old Berthoud resident, for “Dangerous Drugs.” Humbert was arrested

A young Labrador mix dog found in the 3100 block of Megan Way ended up going to the Larimer County Humane Society

A 17-year-old Firestone resident was issued a citation for improper backing after causing a motor vehicle accident with property damage. The incident occurred in the parking lot at 919 Mountain Avenue.

Some one on Welch Avenue complained about the noise of a Honda racing down the street.

Suspicious, or so someone thought about a vehicle parked behind Grandpa’s restaurant.

Police made five traffic stops but no citations were issued.


Thursday, June 24

A vehicle parked at Weld County Road 5 and East Highway 56 shortly before 1 a.m. was suspicious enough that someone called the police.

A case of beer was stolen from a stack of cases awaiting deliver to the Log Cabin Liquor store.

A dog with tags was apprehended in the 700 block of Holmes Place. Fate unknown.

Friday, June 25

A noise complaint at 5:30 a.m. was a work crew getting an early start pouring concrete at the high school. Another call at 6:06 a.m. asked, “How much longer?”

The found Poodle mix dog was retrieved by the owner.

The residents in the 100 block of East Iowa Avenue were upset when their yard was TP’d. Listed as a case of vandalism.


Saturday, June 26

A trespass was reported at the Berthoud Reservoir. In this case the personnel were authorized employees of the Berthoud Water Department working on equipment.

A mechanical failure caused a fire in the engine compartment of a motor home as it was being driven down Third Street by the Post Office. Berthoud Fire extinguished the fire while Berthoud Police directed traffic.

Police were unable to locate the source of fireworks reported in the 800 block of Welch Avenue.


Sunday, June 27

Police were called to the scene of a three-car accident at County Road 8 and US Highway 287. They were on scene for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

There was a complaint about cars parked in the alley in the 200 block of East Iowa, but the cars were not there when police arrived.

Berthoud Police and Larimer County Deputies responded to County Road 6 and Highway 287 on a report of attempted suicide.

A suspicious circumstance in the 1100 block of Second Street was a vehicle parking issue. An abandoned vehicle had another vehicles license plate. The vehicle was towed.

Monday, June 28

Sharon had to come down to the Habitat Thrift Store when police found open doors at 2 am.

At about 8:15 a.m., Berthoud Police, as well as officers of the Colorado State Patrol, Weld County Sheriff’s Deputies, Thompson Valley EMS and Berthoud Fire, were dispatched to private property near Weld County Road 7 and Highway 56 to a report of a suicidal person. Investigation showed that 37-year-old Ginger Mohs, a Fort Collins resident, was dead. The initial cause of death is believed to be a gunshot wound. The investigation is continuing.

A bicycle was found abandoned in Railroad Park.

School is out and kids are trying to occupy themselves. The police explained to a group of juveniles that banging on the soda machine in front of Hays Market at 9:41 p.m. is not an approved way to spend one’s time. Neither was hanging out at Town Park or Ivy Stockwell Elementary School at that time of night.

A Welch Avenue resident reported a man in the yard just after 11 p.m. Police were unable to locate the trespasser.

Tuesday, June 29

A Sioux Drive resident reported suspicions about drugs in the neighborhood.

A traffic hazard was reported on north Fourth Street during evening rush hour traffic. There is no report of what became of the cows and horses in the road.


Wednesday, June 30

A 1 a.m. barking dog in the 500 block of the normally quiet Seventh Street earned its master a written warning.

A cell phone and a camera were left at the Berthoud Swimming pool.

A dog loose in the 100 block of Turner Avenue was captured and returned to its owner.

Reports of shots fired in the 1000 block of County Road 19 brought a quick response from the officer who apparently handled the situation.
